Denny Hamlin‘s 50th NASCAR Cup Series win didn’t come with a clean finish. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver takes center stage after the rather controversial win at Highpoint 400 at Pocono Raceway. Hamlin donned the bad guy persona, ruining a good day for his friend and Hendrick Motorsports ace, Kyle Larson.
The day was picture-perfect for JGR with all four of their Toyotas in the top 10 as veterans claimed the top spots including Hamlin’s teammate and #1 ranked driver Martin Truex Jr. While the 42-year-old finished third behind Tyler Reddick and Hamlin, his close friend, Dale Earnhardt Jr has some bad news for him.
Speaking on his popular Dale Jr Download podcast, the JR Motorsports co-owner spurned Truex Jr’s comments about Hamlin snatching the win from the 2021 title holder, Kyle Larson.

Dale Earnhardt Jr not one to confide in Truex Jr’s “dirty” remarks
Kill or be killed—that was the notion in the Wild West. Although society has surpassed the pragmatic realm of survival tactics, NASCAR tracks are unforgiving and so are contenders. Drivers stay razor sharp and would capitalize on being super aggressive if the moment demands it. Case in point: last week’s race at Pocono Raceway.
Denny Hamlin, allegedly crashed his friend Kyle Larson to snatch his win in the closing laps. While the community was discussing Hamlin’s act, Martin Truex Jr relayed his thoughts, deeming it “dirty.” Truex’s best friend and the most popular driver of this century, Dale Jr rejected the veteran’s notion and agreed with his manager, Mike Davis.
Known for his honest ways, MTJ has always been the fans’ favorite but Junior felt like his mellow attitude will soon get him in trouble with every driver in the field who trying their luck to get a better position as the playoffs are closing in fast. Speaking on his podcast, Dale Jr resonated with his manager who said,
“Let’s get Martin Truex Jr as an example. Truex is not going to run you dirty, right? No, he won’t. You know, what he had a reason and he had an opportunity to get Joey Logano back, I was listening to Jeff Gluck and Jordan Bianchi do this. Joey Logano, he’ll will take what he need, right? And he can also win a championship that way, right? He has done it, so Truex lost a championship that way,” Davis said.
Though the veteran Truex Jr may have mellowed down a bit—much like the saying goes, with age comes wisdom—the veteran showcased his racing prowess, utterly dominating the field at New Hampshire.
While the 2017 Cup Series champ doesn’t rely on his fiery self, losing out the heat, his friend Dale Jr is of the opinion that Truex Jr still needs a bit of fire to make this his dream season, winning the championship and sailing into the sunset. With the community witnessing an epic race last week, Dale Jr chimed in with his thoughts of NASCAR benefitting from the recent Hamlin-Larson stint.

With the crowd back in the stands, the 2.5-mile speedway had record numbers ever since 2010. And with the fans returning back to the tracks, veteran Dale Jr believes things are developing for the good. Chiming in with his thoughts on The Dale Jr. Download podcast, the 2x winner and 4x runner-up at Daytona drew a close parallel, mentioning the sport’s good old days.
“We need exactly what we got yesterday. We need that villain, we need contact, confrontation. When it ain’t there, Good Lord it’s boring. I’m sorry, when there ain’t nothing going, when you don’t give a crap about the two-three guys up there battling for the lead and they are three car lengths apart all day and man letting each other pass and driving by each other cleanly and not even really putting up a fight, I mean, that’s where we were not long ago,” said Junior, impressing the necessity of a great storyline.
