While NASCAR is revered for its epic rivalries, the sport never fails to grow some of the great friendships and alliances. Amidst the bland off-season that has left the community cold, Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Martin Truex Jr has come out with a hilarious impersonation of his friend, Dale Earnhardt Jr leaving fans and the driver in stitches. The former teammates have had a healthy relationship, with Dale Jr standing up and sticking up for his friend on many occasions.

However, this time, MTJ, along with his buddies at JGR, has dropped a wholesome video of NBC’s commentary booth from 2018, relaying the thrilling last lap back and forth between Kyle Larson and “Rowdy” Kyle Busch. Back when Kyle Larson was in the #42 Chip Ganassi Racing car and “Bad Boy” Kyle Busch was in the #18 JGR car, the community saw some of the fiercest one-on-ones in NASCAR. The proud Toyota camp recently revisited one such epic duel, going back in time to 2018, recreating the exhilarating Chicagoland finish with both drivers beating and banging on each other for the win.

While Rick Allen in the commentary booth screamed his lungs out in excitement as the action unraveled to an epic finish, Dale Earnhardt Jr with his typical child-like innocence, limited his commentary to words, yelling, Slide job, slide job!” Burton opened his mouth only after Busch crossed the finish line, saying, “Wow, oh my goodness.”

While the race went down in history as one of Busch’s fiercest performances, his former team dropped a priceless video with a twist as MTJ donned the spectacles, taking on Dale Jr’s role. The timing and the impression were perfect, if you ask. with the guy in the background doing a wonderful job of mimicking veteran Burton’s disbelief with a quirky twist, having a Rubik’s cube in hand.

Now ardent NASCAR knows Martin Truex Jr as a tough, gritty driver who would chase down his adversary for laps just to avoid an ugly spill. The JGR veteran is, known for his class, unwilling to take it beyond the point to bump off competitors and win it with the old-school “bump and run” tactics. In the final rounds of the 2018 Cup Series championship race, Truex Jr was denied his win when Joey Logano moved the JGR Toyota to cruise his way into a victory.

Martin Truex Jr spent six laps working to get around Logano without significant contact, succeeded on the last lap, and then lost the lead when Joey Logano roughed him up off the final corner. Reflecting on his buddy’s performance, Dale Earnhardt Jr according to Autoweek.com said, “I was just really surprised that Martin drove him as clean as he did, I was like, “Come on Martin! Quit being so clean.”

While the veteran JGR driver has always been the type of driver to let some steam off, not mincing his words, his class act of racing and his super humble demeanor on the track have led Dale Jr to draw a quick comparison. He said, “He talks like Earnhardt and races like Mark Martin, I told him that. I said, man, ‘You ought to talk like Earnhardt and drive like Earnhardt.'”
