Truex Jr’s recent victory was a testament to his expertise and dedication. His exceptional performance during the delayed Monday race demonstrated his prowess, earning him his first win at the track after about 30 attempts.

During the post–race press conference, Truex was asked, “Martin, is it more of a Monday thing for you this year, or is it more of a home track thing for you this year?”

The reporter asked this question because, after the Dover Motor Speedway race, this was the second instance this season where Truex Jr triumphed in a race that was postponed to Monday. Interesting, right? Well, the answer Truex gave to the question was much better.

“Man, I hate to say it, that it’s a Monday thing, but Mondays sure have been good to us. I don’t know, I think we could have won yesterday if it didn’t rain, but you never know,” the #19 driver laughed.

Truex Jr took charge during the wet Crayon 301 on Monday, displaying his sheer superiority on the New Hampshire course. With an outstanding lead of 254 laps out of 301, the 43-year-old racer secured his third triumph of the season and his 34th career overall.

The Joe Gibbs Driver even swept Stages 1 and 2, before he took the top spot on the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series standing chart. At the end of a dominating day, Truex thanked his Joe Gibbs Racing team for building him an incredible race car that was good enough to hold off a charging Joey Logano in the final rounds on Monday.

Truex further stated, “The racing gods do funny things at times. Just glad we could put it together, honestly. Stage 3 came around, and I was like, what will happen. It all went to plan. We never got it — the field never really flipped on strategy. We could always be at least equal tires to the guys around us or better. That’s really the difference from last year to this year, it was just making the right decisions and the cautions not falling at inopportune times to put us in a bad spot.

“James [Small, his crew chief] did a great job calling the race when to take two when to stay out, all those things, and he called it perfect, and the race car was unbelievable.”
