Martin Truex Jr., who clinched the regular-season title, now stands on the precipice of elimination. Also, Bristol Motor Speedway, known as one of his weaker tracks, looms ahead. With only four top-10 finishes in 32 starts on Bristol’s concrete configuration, Truex faces an uphill battle to save him from being eliminated in the Round of 16.

During the pre-race media conference, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver was confronted with a question about his approach to the race given the looming playoff elimination. His response was candid and intriguing. When asked if he might have to be a jerk during the race, Truex admitted that it’s a possibility.

“You kind of just take it as it comes,” said Truex Jr. when asked about looking at others during the race. “Right now, we know where we stand and what we have to do, but things change and if things change in a major way, they will let me know, but we just have to go race and do the best job that we can do.”

Later on, he got asked, “Do you have to be a jerk tomorrow night?” To this, he simply said, It’s possible.

In the lead-up to the first playoff elimination race at Bristol, Busch shared his thoughts on the regular-season champion facing potential elimination in the opening round. He was asked if he believed changes were needed in the system to prevent such scenarios. His response was straightforward. He doesn’t feel sorry for Truex Jr. or any other driver in a similar situation.

Kyle Busch stated, “It?s a hard one to argue you know. We were third in points, and we had, call it four out of six weeks go bad. And we?re down to 11th in points, so I don?t feel sorry for them. It sucks. It?s this time of year it happened to us as well, too, you know. We could have won the regular season championship if it wasn?t for four bad weeks in six weeks.”
