Mark Martin backing Brett Griffin—Is this the tough love NASCAR fans need to hear more often?

NASCAR has always seen the fans be on the polarizing ends of a heated debate or topics in the sport. It is very rare to see the community share the same opinion. This is partly because of their allegiances to different teams and drivers.

However, sometimes the fans overstep their boundaries by throwing shade at the drivers or teams. There have been instances when drivers lost their cool and had to confront the fans. Tony Stewart punching a race fan after a dirt race. One fan even tried to confront Denny Hamlin after the Coca-Cola 600 race and threw his hands at the security guard stationed at the entrance of the garage.

This time around, it’s the veteran NASCAR spotter and DBC host Brett Griffin who had to deal with the negativity from a fan online.

Griffin had a perfect response for this internet bully

The veteran spotter has been around NASCAR for almost 20 years. He notably served as the spotter for Jeff Burton and Clint Bowyer. Moreover, he also partnered with Ross Chastain during his Xfinity Series days. But the duo were up against the odds as Chastain’s team, Chip Ganassi, was shutting down his Xfinity racing operations.

Griffin was the one who architected his partial run with Kaulig Racing, which would become a huge turning point in Chastain’s career. He spotted for the Alva, Florida native in the 2019 Daytona race, helping Chastain to clinch his second Xfinity career win and a full-time ride with Kaulig in 2020.

While the two have gone different ways since then, an internet bully tried to challenge Griffin to a fight after he shared a personal update. The fan wrote, “Let’s fight at Atlanta tubby ill throw some hands with you fr.” Interestingly, the username of the imposter was Boss Chastain, who claimed to be an ARCA Series winner. But Griffin wasn’t going to let this behavior slide and threw in a rebuttal that even caught NASCAR icon Mark Martin’s attention.

Griffin addressed the threats and jotted down the points aimed at the imposter. “1. You’d lose. 2. I am not going to Atlanta. 3. Take your fake punk a– twitter account and go upstairs and see your parents.” Impressed by this response, Mark Martin took to his X account and wrote, “I’m digging @SpotterBrett responses 💯.”

The 2024 Cup Series season has seen big upsets. Big names such as Kyle Busch, Bubba Wallace, Ross Chastain, and Chris Buescher failed to make the playoffs. Rather, we had the likes of Austin Cindric and Harrison Burton, who will compete for the championship with a single win during the regular season. However, entering the playoffs and contending for the championship are two different things. And this is where Griffin feels a lot of teams got it wrong in planning for their season.

He took direct jabs at Bubba Wallace and the RFK Racing camp. “I hate to say this, but the 23XI team of Bubba Wallace wants to win a race and make the playoff. Now the difference is Tyler Reddick, who we already know is championship caliber. You’ve got about six teams that are really out there for something different.” Griffin said this on DBC.

He further pushed his argument with his co-host, T.J. Majors, who spots for Brad Keselowski and the #6 RFK Racing team. “Are you a championship-caliber team?” Majors tried to put his arguments on the table stating, “I think we are a step below them, but we can make them nervous at times.” However, Griffin was buying it and simply stated, “No, I’m being honest with you.”

It’s fair to say that Brett Griffin holds his ground and is blunt and honest about his views on NASCAR, even if they are controversial.
