JR Motorsports have been at the crux of changing lineups, and crew chief swaps have been at the center. One crew chief who is now starting his venture as the Xfinity Series crew for Connor Zilisch is Mardy Lindley. Given that he will be the crew chief for Zilisch, he has already garnered quite a bit of curiosity around him. 

Who is Mardy Lindley?

Mardy Lindley is a 12-year veteran in the world of stock car racing. He previously had pursued a career racing at the South Eastern short tracks and this includes the much more prestigious United Speed Alliance Pro Cup as well. Before the world of NASCAR, Lindley had quite a lucrative career in the ARCA Menards Series. 

Mardy is the son of Butch Lindley and Flora Joan Barbare also known as Joan. He has also got a sister by the name of Tonda. His father Butch was a very well-known short track racer of all time. It was from here that Mardy had developed an affinity towards the tracks which he later pursued with all his vigor and dedication. 

How did Mardy Lindley make his headway into the world of NASCAR?

Transitioning from behind the wheel after his short stint at the short track racing, Lindley found his new calling as a mechanic. This is when he joined Roush Fenway Racing and coincidentally worked with the #16 team. Coincidentally enough, this was the car number that was quite famously linked to his father.

Determined to make his mark, Lindley advanced to HScott Motorsports as a crew chief in the K&N Pro Series. This is exactly when his expertise led to a championship victory in 2013. He later collaborated with talented drivers like Rico Abreu and continued to excel in ARCA. He also teamed up with Lorin Ranier of MDM-Ranier Racing as a crew chief. This further added to solidifying his reputation.

On November 17, 2022, Lindley’s hard work and dedication culminated in his appointment as the crew chief for JR Motorsports’ No. 1 car. This was the same car that was driven by Sam Mayer. Together, they achieved an impressive five-win season. This showcases Lindley’s relentless rise through the ranks of NASCAR. It was in this season that it was formally announced that Lindley would be the guide for rookie Connor Zilisch and his No. 88 Chevrolet. It was his supremacy in the world of Truck series that marked his entry into the next tier of the Xfinity Series.

While Mardy Lindley had already proven his stance as an upcoming crew chief and solidified his grounds in the JR Motorsports team, this is his first time at the Xfinity trucks. The format and nature of the play that the Truck series follows is very different from that of Xfinity. However, hailing from the ARCA Menards Series, he does have a lot of potential for the upcoming 2025 season. 

Lindley will be guiding Connor Zilisch who is also a promising talent and is currently only 18 years old. Connor Zilisch joined Red Bull in September of last year during his rookie season in NASCAR, marking a significant milestone in his young career. The 18-year-old has been part of Trackhouse Racing, co-owned by Justin Marks and Pitbull, since early last year, where he has been developing his skills. Given his prowess at this tender age, he has garnered appreciation from some of the biggest talents in the industry. In fact, Dale Earnhardt Jr, the NASCAR Hall of Famer had commented on his talent and said, “Enjoy this, you never win your ‘first’ again”. 

Zilisch has been quite vocal about the new opportunity at JR Motorsports and is aware of the skills that he would have to build eventually. Speaking of the same, he said, “I’m going to enjoy this one for a while. I can’t say enough about JR Motorsports and everyone who supports me”. 

Whether the partnership between Zilisch and Mardy Lindley will stand the test of time will be proven during the NASCAR Xfinity Series season 2025. Given the fresh talent that Zilisch is along with Lindley’s knowledge of the tracks, one can expect a stunning and successful season ahead.
