What could be more precious for an actor than an Oscar? Can any other trophy surpass the acclaim that an entertainer gets by winning an Oscar? While it is a dream for all the actors and artists related to cinema to be honored with the coveted prize from the Academy, it is not so for Michael Fassbender.
The veteran actor would love to differ from the popular perception. Despite being a part of Hollywood for more than two decades, this veteran has his priorities set, as he took the driver’s seat for the second time at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. But the result didn’t turn out to be as favorable as he wanted it to be.
In an interview before taking his seat in the Porsche 911 for the German team Proton Competition in the LMGTE category, the actor-turned-driver revealed the place that motor racing holds in his life. Fassbender revealed that racing has been his passion since childhood and that he has always wanted to take a shot at professional racing.

Michael Fassbender fails to unleash his superpower as he quits the tracks of Le Mans
In the interview published by the Wide World of Motorsports, the two-time Oscar nominee stated, “Acting is something that is my job. I’m more used to it and at home with it—it’s like my natural office, but racing was always my first dream as a young boy.”
He further divulged, “It’s kind of tricky. I feel like acting is definitely my homework. I feel most comfortable in it, but this is the original dream.” Moreover, the supervillain Magneto from the X-men franchise asserted, “A victory in Le Mans, I would take over an Oscar.”
However, Magneto failed to summon his superpowers at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in his second appearance. Unfortunately, he faltered badly in the race after colliding with the tire barriers. As the driver hit the barriers, the commentators exclaimed, “Oh, that’s trouble for the 911 Michael Fassbender. That’s a lot of time wreckage now, he has gone in backward again into the Porsche curve. Michael Fassbender coming to the end of his driving stint, he had 18 minutes left to complete his six hours.
“Well, he’s gonna have to go back again then because that’s completed then. That’s a big hit, it climbed the tire barrier, and it’s still driving, it’s one of those classic Le Man’s accidents.”
As the driver limped back to the pits, to get his car repaired, the sportscaster shared the thoughts, “Took the penalty that was coming his way for going over the white light, but now he has got to spend some time in the pits to get it fixed, that car coming in from 9th position in the hands of Michael Fassbender, the Irish-German Oscar nominee.”
However, the car was beyond repair and had to be retracted back into the garage, bringing his stint to an end. And in the background, the announcer was heard saying, “It is to come to bring his driving level up to the level where he can compete in Le Mans 24 hrs. He has raced in Porsche Carrera Supercar, he has raced in other GT programs, and raced here in The Road to Le Mans.”

Fassbender’s character in X-Men is a mutant that has the ability to control and manipulate the magnetic field around him. But Magneto failed to control the racing field for the second time at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He raced alongside teammates Austrian Richard Lietz and Martin Rump of Estonia.
After four years of rigorous training, the driver faltered last year in the series. He crashed three times, including the crash he suffered in the qualifying. Later, he expressed his disappointment about the fact, saying, “Dream turned into a nightmare.”
Such was the miscalculation on his part that during the race in the 2022 edition, after his second crash, the broadcasters exclaimed, “Oh no, not again!”

Well, it is surely a sad affair for the actor, as his childhood dream of winning at Le Mans came to a premature end once again. But the actor is hopeful that he will have a clear shot at the race in the next season, and would be ready to dominate the world of motor racing, just as he dominates the fictional world of Marvel’s X-Men.
