Sunday’s race at Phoenix witnessed some unexpected action, like William Byron registering his second consecutive win in the 2023 NASCAR season. However, apart from a few bumps and a late-race wreck, the race was pretty much clean. But then why was Martin Truex Jr. mad at Joey Logano during the race?

Around Lap 60 in the first stage, Joey Logano was running a lap down when his #22 made contact with Martin Truex Jr’s #19. And not just once, but twice! Moments before the tussle, Logano’s spotter Coleman Pressley was heard saying, “Two-wide with Truex.”

Moreover, the commentator was also surprised by the contact and admitted, “The first time makes you upset if you are Martin Truex Jr. The second time really makes you mad.”

Although Truex Jr did not have much to say at the moment, his frustrations with Logano were quite evident in the latter part of the race.

With just four laps to go, Truex’s spotter, Drew Herring told the #19 driver, “Four [laps] more here. Four more. Three [car lengths] off to the #22 started making some time on you. He’s actually running the top both ends.”

While a clearly upset Truex Jr. said, “I don’t give a f**ck where he’s running. Can only run to one spot, leave me alone!”

After Martin Truex Jr, fans witness a frustrated Kyle Larson

It’s true! For the second consecutive week, Kyle Larson was frustrated with his race. Upset by his finish, the Hendrick Motorsports driver told NASCAR media, “Yeah, I’m pissed off. Great fight by the team, great car – way better than we were here last year.”

“Yeah, I mean, it’s a long season, but hopefully, we’re in the final four (Championship 4 race) when we come back here in November and can have a run similar to that with speed and try to execute a little bit better at the end.”

Having led the second stage and the restart, it seemed like Larson had a great chance of taking the trophy home under caution. However, after an accident involving AJ Allmendinger, Noah Gragson, and Ty Gibbs, William Byron got the opportunity to grab the checkered flag.
