The 2019 Daytona 500 Champion has previously joined American blogger Dave Portnoy to review Harry’s Italian. And they have bonded pretty well with their love for food, adventures, and sports. On his recent podcast, the ‘Chicago Streets & NY Pizza’ episode recalled a bizarre memory regarding food tasting and reviews.

“I wish we could have done that review again because Dave and I have so many similarities. I, too, have a bad shoulder. It’s, you know, it’s tough. It was luckily for me that lady didn’t come fat shame me. Like she did to him and his review of Zaza’s pizza.” Hamlin commented.

Earlier, Dave Portnoy, on his Youtube channel One Bite Pizza Reviews, was trying out a Knisher from one of the oldest Knishery in the United States. While buying his food and T-shirt, he got some not-so-good comments from the shop owner. When the lady realized he was a food blogger, she changed her demeanor and asked him to try other food samples.

With all this in mind, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver was questioning whether, with a 12,000-mile walk ahead, indulging in the pizza at 1 o’clock in the afternoon was wise. His fear of feeling weighed down and uncomfortable was reasonable, yet curiosity got the better of the NASCAR driver.

Denny Hamlin on a culinary quest in Chicago

After extensive research on pizza reviews from Dave Portnoy and consulting the One Bite app, the driver had high expectations for deep-dish pizza. It was different from regular New York-style pizza.

Amidst his group of friends, the driver dove into the rich and heavy pizza, and three slices disappeared as if they were nothing. Though skeptical prior, the #11 Toyota Camry driver found himself pleasantly surprised primarily by the golden medal pizza with its combination of four kinds of cheese. It was a surprising revelation for him, as he had expected to prefer the simplicity of the classic cheese version.
