The holiday season, with all its festivities and gifts, is supposed to be a merry time. Christmas and the New Year are times of the year everybody waits eagerly for. But for one of NASCAR’s beloved, things only went from bad to worse to terrible this holiday season.
NASCAR’s veteran spotter, Brett Griffin, informed the NASCAR fraternity the day after Christmas that his mother had been hospitalized late at night. He was hopeful that they would soon sort the episode out and he’d celebrate the New Year with his mother back at home.

Unfortunately, though, his mother couldn’t make it through. Griffin posted a video on Twitter that informed fans of her sad demise. “… I just wanted to get on here and personally say thank you all for the kind words that you said to me, my family and supported us. Losing our mother over the Christmas break …”
He also apprised fans of a tribute that he had planned for her. Griffin said, “Definitely a very difficult time for us, and I wanted to do something to honor her. To do that, I came up with an idea that I wanted to create a shirt that says ‘Momma’s Boy’ because I’ve been my momma’s boy my whole life.”
“And then after we created the design, I was like ‘Man there’s a lotta guys out there that are momma’s boys.’ And this kinda racing flair to it with the Os in the shape of steering wheels… So I don’t care if we sell any and I don’t care if we sell a million. This is my tribute to my mother, and I want to share that with all you momma’s boys out there.”
A visibly distraught Griffin ended the message with, “Love you all. I appreciate everybody that’s reached out. Text, phone calls, tweets, Facebook …man, I’ve read ‘em all. I wasn’t able to comment on ‘em al… I’ll be back active on social media before long. I just needed to take a little break.”
A tough time for the veteran. All of NASCAR sends out their wishes for the family.
