In the final regular season race of the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series, Stewart-Haas Racing driver Ryan Preece suffered a truly horrific crash at Daytona. In the third stage of the race, Preece was tagged which sent his car flying off the track onto the grass. His car flipped nearly a dozen times before coming to a halt in a mangled state. There was radio silence in the car as the medical staff rushed to Preece, who thankfully was able to walk out of the wreck without sustaining any major injuries.
Every single driver who was on the track that night shared a voice of concern for Preece as all competition came to a half and there was nothing more important than their fellow driver’s condition. Everyone let out a sigh of relief as the SHR man walked out of the wreck, but it shook everyone to the core. After being cleared from the hospital Ryan Preece was recently interviewed where he showed the scars of his crash.

It was pretty scary just seeing the crash and a lot of people might have assumed that Preece would not be able to walk out of it. But the SHR man did exactly that and it was nothing short of a miracle. Over the years, NASCAR has seen fatal crashes far too often, and Preece’s crash was visceral.
Preece was initially taken to the infield care center before being transferred to a hospital for further monitoring. He was released not long after the incident and his wife, Heather, posted a picture of him holding his daughter. It was an emotional moment for the family.
But Preece did not make out of the crashes without any injuries. In his recent interview, Preece took off his shades to share the effects of the accident. The area around both of his eyes was bruised and light purple. It’s safe to say that it was not a pretty sight.
But Preece seemed to be in a good mood as he called an incident to be just a part of the dangerous sport that he plays.

“I’m just gonna put an end to it right because obviously people, what I want you all to know, is that racing in general, whether you race in a sprint car or a modified anything, it’s dangerous, so there’s consequences to everything,” the SHR man said.
The crash and its after-effects were very similar to a crash former NASCAR driver Davey Allison had suffered at Pocono in 1992. Allison’s car had been airborne and flipped a number of times and he too had developed similar bruises underneath his eyes.
Fans online were quick to pick up on that detail as they shared their messages of love and support for Ryan Preece after his miraculous escape from the horror crash.

Under the video released on Instagram by NASCAR on FOX, fans drew parallels between Davy Allison’s and Ryan Preece’s crashes.
One fan commented, “Same thing happened to Davey.”
The feature of similarity between the two drivers was the bruised area under the eyes which immediately drew fans’ attention.
“Omg the red eye just like Davey Allison”, commented another fan.
Any injury that is inflicted close to the eyes has the ability to somewhat impair one’s vision. Sometimes, that damage is permanent. Thankfully for Preece, that was not the case.
“Very very scary, just glad he’s healthy and doesn’t have any vision issues,” wrote another fan.
As some fans drew parallels, some questioned how his eyes bruised when he had a helmet on.
