Shane van Gisbergen, the illustrious three-time Australian Supercars champion, is set to rewrite the NASCAR narrative once again in a whirlwind of speed and skill. On Sunday, August 13, van Gisbergen’s quest for NASCAR domination will start as he takes on the Indianapolis road course. The Project 91 Chevrolet Camaro, fielded by the tenacious Trackhouse Racing team, stands as his chariot of choice.

But before this, his journey begins at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park on Friday, August 11, where the spotlight will shift to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. It’s an oval dance that the New Zealander has yet to partake in. Still, with the #41 Chevrolet Silverado RST and Niece Motorsports as his partners, van Gisbergen is ready to waltz into uncharted territory. The 200-lap race on the tight 0.686-mile track promises drama, determination, and a dash of destiny as the Supercars maestro transforms into a Truck Series contender. In a recent podcast, Gisbergen discussed his thoughts on competing in the dirt race with Dale Earnhardt Jr.

In the latest episode of The Dale Jr. Download, a riveting conversation unfolded between Dale Jr, Mike Davis, and the guest star Shane van Gisbergen. As the trio delved into the unique world of truck racing at the Indianapolis Raceway Park (IRP), the 2x Xfinity Series champion asked, “What are you worried about when you’re going to you’re going to IRP? Yeah, in a truck? Uh, Little Bull Ring, Flat Odd Corners, Weird Groove. Multiple ways to get through the corner.”

“Yeah. So I watched the race coming over here, and it doesn’t look like they race with a lot of respect for each other. It’s completely different and there’s no rules about it if you take someone out, really, but you gotta do something pretty bad to get in trouble. But yeah, it looks like carnage and quite tough running up by the wall and stuff. It’s just gonna take time. Yeah, I sat in the truck yesterday and arrived there, and the left front wheel looks like it’s broken and already hanging off.” SVG replied with a laugh.

As the trio dove deeper into the racing intricacies, the conversation shifted to pit stops—a realm Van Gisbergen admitted grappling with. In stark contrast to his usual stomping grounds, where a button press and steady foot suffices, IRP’s pit stops require an artful touch. The delicate balance of maintaining speed while executing a precise stop is a challenge that even seasoned racers like Van Gisbergen must master. His humble admission of losing precious seconds at Chicago’s pits reveals that this novel racing environment’s learning curve is steep.
