Over time, NASCAR has produced superstars galore. The recent commemoration of NASCAR’s 75 greatest drivers shows the sheer talent in their ranks. Carl Edwards is one of the names on NASCAR’s list and arguably a forgotten name. But his return to NASCAR has been on the cards for quite some time now.

He has often been questioned about the same, and although he has shown interest in racing once again, he also shows concerns over his ever-increasing age. Addressing his increased frequency of appearances at the tracks, Edwards answers questions about his whereabouts.

Nashville Super Speedway is honoring you today. Why suddenly do we see you at racetracks all again this year?” This is the question on every NASCAR fan’s mind. Frontstretch’s Dalton Hopkins took it upon himself to ask the question to the legend himself.

The question is apt considering the circumstances. Out of nowhere, Edwards has suddenly become a highly discussed topic. Ranging from a return to driving to a role as an executive, multiple speculations have floated around. And Edwards does have an answer to it indeed.

“A couple of reasons,” says the 43-year-old. ” First, you know to have these honors is really special to me, and for NASCAR to include me in that list of 75 drivers, that was really special. Lisa Kennedy called me, and I thought, man I… and I love Darlington, right, so I thought this will be just a lot of fun, and I’m so glad I went got to be up in the booth with Clint [Bowyer] and the guys.”

Speaking about his relationship with the track president Greg Hoffman, he adds, “That was really fun and so and then the Nashville Super Speedway, you know Greg Hoffman, he called me. He said, man, we’re doing something special would you be a part of it? And I just it is special to me so that’s why I’m here. It’s an honor, and it’s been really great.”

Looking at Edwards’ enthusiasm for being involved with the felicitations, it makes one wonder what would he feel like if he could get back to driving again in the Cup Series.

Some weeks back, Edwards was seemingly convinced about his decision. His statements, if anything, suggested that the fans had already seen the last of Carl Edwards in a Cup car. He said, “It was easy to not race when I first stepped away, but it’s getting harder and harder. I like sliding stuff around and driving cars. So there’ll be a time when I go do something. Maybe sim work, something like that … to see if I could still drive. It’s a step-by-step process.”

Even though it signs an involvement in another aspect apart from being a driver, nothing seemed to be concrete. But recent developments have suggested otherwise.

After saying yes to a possible chance at returning to action, he then in a strange turn of events, contradicted the same saying, “For me, I really feel racing is a risky sport, There’s risk involved, and if I’m not committed 100%, I don’t feel that it’s the right thing for me to go do for fun. But I’ll tell you this, if it creeps in and it’s something we wanna go do, then I promise you I’ll give it a 100%,”

His presence at Nashville Superspeedway was for a ceremony to celebrate Edwards’ impeccable record at the venue. A 6-time winner at the track, Carl must have fond memories of it. The Speedway authorities have devised a Legend’s Plaza initiative to celebrate the drivers and honored the former JGR driver, making him the first inductee. Although Edwards’ Cup win count stopped at 28 in 2016 with his retirement, everyone would like to see the legend in action once again.
