The final regular-season race of the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series was not without its own fair share of crashes and cautions. There was more than one big incident that caught the eyes of fans and experts. The biggest of the lot was perhaps Ryan Preece’s massive accident, which saw his car flip more than a dozen times, but that wasn’t the only one.

Earlier in the race, during the second stage, Ryan Blaney and Ty Gibbs were battling for the stage win and Gibbs needed a push from his teammate to get past Blaney. However, the plan was not executed well at all, as the JGR driver’s push was too hard and it spun Gibbs. Gibbs tagged Blaney’s #12, and both cars slammed into the barriers with the Team Penske car taking the brunt of the impact.

Fans Echo Ryan Blaney’s Frustration With JGR Man

Blaney was livid and disappointed after what happened in just the second stage of the race, which forced him to retire early. The Team Penske driver had suffered a similar fate in the exact same spot at Daytona earlier in the season. It was the worst déjà vu a race car driver could have hoped for, and he did not hold back against the culprit Christopher Bell’s botched attempt to push his teammate forward. Blaney had a large number of fans who agreed with him and completely went in on criticizing Bell for his dangerous maneuver.

After the weekend’s race at Daytona, Blaney said that it was frustrating to crash out in the same place twice in a year over something that was not even his fault. He also wished a speedy recovery for Ryan Preece who suffered an even terrifying accident later on in the race.

“I appreciate everyone’s support, I’m doing alright. Getting hooked in the right rear in both Daytona races this year in the same exact spot because of someone’s terrible push is frustrating. Hope Ryan Preece is able to get back on his feet soon,” Blaney wrote on Twitter.

The Team Penske driver, who seemed on course for a stage win, was obviously talking about Christopher Bell. Fans on Reddit didn’t hold back against the Joe Gibbs Racing driver, stating that he was one of the few drivers who fans expected to cause the big crashes these days.

“Bell has to be at that logano/spinhouse level where he is one of the few you expect to cause thee big one now,” one fan wrote.

Another fan wrote that he would never let Bell be his pusher if he was a driver in the NASCAR Cup Series.

“Note to self: Never let CBell be my pusher/s.”

Christopher Bell’s comments after the race suggested that the incident was just a part of racing and some fans didn’t take too kindly to that, commenting that the JGR man was deflecting responsibility.

“Bell’s post race comments surprised me. To say “this is superspeedway racing” deflects all responsibility. He should have realised he made a mistake and learn from it,” they said.

The same person later wrote that while he believed that the JGR man was a good race car driver, he was not the best at pack racing and made the same mistakes over and over again.

“Bell is an incredible driver, but he’s just not good at pack racing. It doesn’t suit his racing style. It frustrates me as a guy that generally likes him, but he just refuses to get better and keeps making the same mistakes at these tracks. I guess he’s just happy to cut his losses 4-6 times a year and make up for it at the other tracks, but damn it, learn,” they added.

There were some fans who came to Christopher Bell’s defence, as one fan commented that Ty Gibbs had gotten loose after Bell had already committed to the push.

“To be fair to Bell, Gibbs got loose after Bell had already committed to the push, and everyone was trying pushing in the corners all night, even after that incident,” wrote another fan.

Despite having some fans speak out in favor of him, Christopher Bell’s antics at Daytona did not make a lot of people happy. The Joe Gibbs Racing man said after the race that the incident was just a part of speedway racing and that spinning his teammate out wasn’t the objective.

“Yeah Blaney, he was, he wasn’t happy. I guess I understand why he’s not happy, but it’s speedway racing like, I mean we’re pushing all night long and I’ve been pushed and pushed other guys,” he said.

“Clearly I didn’t mean to spin out my teammate who needs to win the race, you know, that was not the objective but the objective is to win the stage and that’s what I was trying to do,” Bell added.

It was these comments after the race that got under the skin of some fans who accused the JGR driver of deflecting responsibility and not learning from his mistakes, Do you think Bell was in the wrong to push Ty Gibbs, or was it really just a racing incident?
