Die-casts are perhaps the most valuable piece of merchandise a racing fan can have. Several die-casts have been made over the years in NASCAR and they all carry some sort of significance. It’s not much of an effort to own a die-cast. As everything is available on the internet, if one has the purchasing power, they can buy a die-cast for themselves. The part that requires a lot of work is making one and Lionel Racing recently gave fans an insight into what it’s like.

In 2023, several die-casts were sold, but as per CBS, Kevin Harvick’s #29 Busch Light Ford was the highest selling. ‘The Closer’ retired from the sport last year, so it is no wonder that fans bought his die-casts to honor his legacy. Harvick’s #4 Budweiser Ford was the 10th-highest-selling one of the year.

Each die-cast is unique due to the race or the driver it signifies, but the making process for all of them is equally tedious. Lionel Racing recently released a video on their X handle portraying the process of making one. The die-cast being made this time was from Kyle Larson’s Las Vegas win. The unique thing about this model is that it will have confetti painted on its body.

The part of the making process that was shown in the video was placing the confetti on the car. 437 pieces are needed to be placed, one by one, manually. It would take a designer hours sitting in front of a screen to get the job done. And unlike actual confetti, it cannot be scattered in random places all over the car.

“brb currently placing 437 pieces of confetti on the driver side of Kyle Larson’s Las Vegas win render,” the caption to the X video read.

Fans showed a lot of interest and appreciation for the process and they expressed those feelings in the comments section under the video. NASCAR fans are anyway known for being quite vocal on social media and they certainly did not disappoint this time either.

Fans always like seeing behind-the-scenes footage of things that they are passionate about and die-casts are no different. “You guys should show us how stuff like this is done,” one user commented.

“This is so cool! Can we see more of the behind the scenes?” asked another.

There was a lot of appreciation for the process as well, which was expected since it indeed is a job that requires a lot of skill and patience. “This makes me appreciate even more the process in replicating these particular cars,” one user wrote.
