“For me, it was life-changing.” Rodney Childers’ recent testimony about his No. 4 Stewart-Haas Racing experience speaks volumes. The champion crew chief and Kevin Harvick put their heads together to create history when they joined SHR in 2014. Rebuilding and rebuffing the No. 39 car used by Ryan Newman yielded an extraordinary result – the No. 4 Ford, which brought Harvick to the pillar of his career. Now, however, that vehicle no longer exists – or doesn’t it? It all depends on Noah Gragson.

Winning the 2014 championship and securing 36 race victories were among the blessings Kevin Harvick enjoyed with the No. 4 car. Now, with SHR ceasing its operations following the conclusion of the 2024 season, those memories feel especially nostalgic. However, a former SHR driver, Noah Gragson, seems to be rekindling that nostalgia, according to a recently leaked report.

Stewart-Haas Racing’s new generation barely lasted a year. Noah Gragson, however, got a fresh start after a tumultuous 2023 season. His time was largely defined by controversy, including a racetrack brawl with Ross Chastain in Kansas and a suspension by his team over an insensitive social media post. Despite this, Tony Stewart welcomed Gragson into SHR, placing his faith in the young driver. Gragson delivered a solid performance, earning seven top-ten finishes and one top-five finish. Although he built a meaningful camaraderie with the SHR team, he eventually had to part ways. Now, as Gragson prepares to join Front Row Motorsports, it seems he is taking a piece of SHR’s legacy with him.

According to a leaked rumor, Rush Truck Centers will sponsor him for his new FRM ride. Incidentally, the ride’s number happens to be 4, the same number that Kevin Harvick carried to Victory Lane so many times. NASCAR expert Eric Estepp shared the rumor on his X feed and optimistically wrote, “Chat is this real *good looking scheme btw*” Indeed, the colors of the scheme scream Harvick-era SHR battle colors. Snazzy splashes of bold red and yellow over a powerful black shade make the ride a sweet one.

Rush Truck Centers and SHR have collaborated for 15 years now. Their connection does not just stop at paint schemes, as SHR racecars are transported via tractor-trailers from Rush. For the 2024 season, Noah Gragson had a slew of sponsors for his No. 10 Ford car. They included Black Rifle, which supported Gragson during his chaotic 2023 run. TrueTimber and Winchester Repeating Arms were onboard the No. 10 SHR Ford for the Daytona 500.

If the leaked rumor turns out to be true, Noah Gragson will be able to uphold a winning heritage fostered by SHR’s past veterans.

When Kevin Harvick roped in Rodney Childers for the No. 4 team, he knew what he was doing. The latter scored wins with legends like David Reutimann and Brian Vickers during his days at Michael Waltrip Racing. So when preparations began for a Dec. 8, 2013, test at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the newly formed No. 4 team knew its goal. While other teams were eager to learn, that team was ready to dominate. Harvick and Childers won five races on their way to the 2014 championship. This fiery winning spark persisted through the years. They clinched 3 wins in 2015, 4 in 2016, 8 in 2018, and 9 in 2020.

As the No. 4 team wrapped up its operations this season, Childers recalled that the attitude taken towards that first step paved the rest of the way. “Going to this first test, we’re going to treat it like we’re going to win a championship. This isn’t just a test car. This isn’t just a test engine. This isn’t just a test gear. This isn’t a test transmission. Like, I want the best stuff that we possibly have in this building. I want the best engine that we can possibly put in it from Hendrick; the best gear, the best transmission, the best hubs, the best bearings, the best oils. Like, we didn’t just treat it like a test. That was the start of setting that example of this is how we’re going to operate.”

Evidently, Noah Gragson’s revival of this glittering legacy is bound to create waves in the NASCAR community. Let us see how far this rumor turns out to be true.
