Home/NASCAR

Layne Riggs, the 2022 maestro of the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series and the 2023 driver for Kevin Harvick Inc. in the CARS Tour, has finally hit the jackpot. NASCAR has rolled out the red carpet for him to compete in the 2024 Truck Series. The grapevine has it that Layne Riggs will be behind the wheel of the No. 38 Ford F-150.

However, this isn’t Riggs’ first rodeo in the NASCAR world. He’s had a taste of the big leagues before as well, having inked a deal with Kaulig Racing for a trifecta of Xfinity races this year itself. He showed his mettle at Texas, Las Vegas, and Martinsville, taking the No. 11 car for a spin that left fans and critics alike sitting up and taking notice.

Yes! It Is Great for NASCAR

No, It Was a Disaster This Time

Layne Riggs is stepping up to the big leagues, taking the reins from Zane Smith as the new face of Front Row Motorsports (FRM). Smith, who is the champ of the 2022 Truck Series, has signed a multi-year deal with Trackhouse Racing and is set to dip his toes in the Cup Series waters with Spire Motorsports in 2024. Eventually, all this will lead to Zane Smith blending into Trackhouse’s lineup once they’re ready to field three full-time Cup cars.

Meanwhile, Layne Riggs has been quietly building his resume. With 6 Truck starts under his belt, split evenly between 2022 and 2023, he’s notched up a top five and a couple of top 10s. Remember his stellar P3 finish at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park this year? That was for Spire Motorsports. Now, Riggs is gearing up for the big leap to a full-time ride, eyeing the Sunoco Rookie of the Year title in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series.

Over the moon, he shared a heartfelt video on Twitter, expressing his gratitude to the FRM team. He said, “Hey everybody this is Layne Riggs at Front Row Motorsports for the first time. Just got done with the contract to run the No.48 F-150 full-time in 2024. Super excited! Thank you so much to Front Row Motorsports, Bob, Jake, and Jenkins- everybody. I have been working so hard, so long for this. It’s been my dream from day one. So, thankyou to all my supporters behind me.”

But that’s not it, it looks like a few more changes are happening in the FRM garage. Dylan Cappello is stepping up from lead engineer to crew chief, while Chris Lawson transitions from his crew chief role to a consultant position, exploring new horizons beyond NASCAR. As we rev up for the season opener at Daytona International Speedway, where FRM is gunning for a hat trick, fans may want to keep their eyes peeled for the announcement of the No. 38 Ford F-150’s sponsorship partners.

While talking to the media and looking back, Riggs acknowledged the long and winding road to this point, noting how tough it’s been to watch others zoom to the Cup level so swiftly. But now it’s his turn to top the racetrack and show what he’s made of.

In a recent chat featured on Jayski.com, Layne Riggs opened up about stepping into Zane Smith’s No. 38 truck, fully aware of the towering task ahead. “I know that I have really big shoes to fill. Zane has been very successful, and I think I can step right in and pick up where he left off,” Riggs mused. “All of the guys on the team are super excited and I’m already starting to build a relationship with these guys.”

Layne Riggs, while thrilled about his leap into NASCAR, shared some candid reflections. Despite his youth, he’s felt the sting of watching his former late-model rivals fast-track through NASCAR’s echelons, reaching the pinnacle of the sport in a blink. Now, with Front Row Motorsports throwing him the ball, he’s ready to play in the big leagues.

“It’s been tough over the years to be racing late models and watching guys progress and get all the way to Cup, I wouldn’t say easily, but so quickly. From late model straight to truck, one year in truck and straight to Cup and I’m still racing late models. It’s like, ‘How can I do that? What does it take?’ I finally feel like I’ve gotten my break and it’s so relieving to be able to race with these guys that I used to race with in the past.”
