The tributes for Jimmie Johnson keep pouring in as he takes to the tracks in his final few races as a full-time NASCAR driver. On Sunday, shortly before the NASCAR Cup Series playoff race, Las Vegas Motor Speedway added to those tributes for Johnson.
The track named their infield tunnel road after Johnson, in honor of his historic career where he won seven NASCAR Cup Series titles. “The next time you drive through the tunnel, you’ll be driving down Jimmie Johnson Way! #OneFinalTime,” the track said in a tweet.
Johnson himself stood beside the board that showed the ‘Jimmie Johnson 48 way’ and took pictures of it. Johnson subsequently took to Twitter in a bid to express his gratitude.

Richmond Raceway honors Jimmie Johnson as well
Earlier during the Playoffs, the Richmond Raceway honored the 7-time champion as well. Just before the second playoff race, the track announced they were naming a pedestrian tunnel after Johnson. They named it ‘The Jimmie Johnson Champions Walk’.
They said that future Cup Series winners and champions of the sport will be celebrated in ‘The Jimmie Johnson Champions Walk’.
“Throughout my career, I have had some highs and lows at Richmond on the track. I’ve enjoyed cycling around the area and have grown to appreciate racing there so much more over the years,” Johnson said of the honor.
“This is a huge honor and its humbling as I visit these tracks for the final time, to accept these wonderful gifts. This is just so cool and I hope to visit victory lane one more time at Richmond,” he added.
