Debate

Is Kyle Larson the next Michael Schumacher, or is Dale Jr. just being overly optimistic?

The debate over who is the best driver in the world has been going on since last Friday. There is still no answer as to who is a better overall driver when it comes to Kyle Larson vs Max Verstappen. Both are extremely skilled drivers in their discipline and now fans want to know who triumphs in all 4-wheeling sports.

Many NASCAR critics and fans have come forward to talk about why their pick is the right answer and joining Kevin Harvick is Dale Earnhardt Jr. The owner of JR Motorsports was asked the question about the debate on his AskJr Live segment, and that’s where he dove into the past to recall a famous race that tipped in Larson’s favor.

After reading out the comments from both Kyle Larson and Max Verstappen on this matter, Dale Jr stated that although he has not met the Red Bull F1 World Champion, he has followed his career. On the live stream, it was revealed that besides Daniel Ricciardo, Max Verstappen would be vouching for F1. However, Jr. agreed with the Hendrick Motorsports driver as he said, “I think Larson’s not wrong. I think that Larson’s got a point. But I would love to see this battle continue, even verbally.”

Although Dale Jr. did not take a stance on the debate, he spoke of the time when Carl Edwards raced Michael Schumacher. Saying, “Now, when Michael Schumacher was racing, in my mind, I just put him at the very top of the mountain,” Dale Earnhardt Jr. explained his stance before the 2008 race, and when Edwards defeated Schumacher in a sport that neither was proficient in, the former NASCAR driver had a change of heart.

Revealing the outcome of the race, Dale Jr. added, “I was so proud of NASCAR in that moment because it was a bit of an underdog win, and it’s probably one of the coolest things Carl Edwards does, a guy who has done a lot of things in our sport.” This race was a huge win for Edwards, as he managed to defeat the only man with 7 world championship F1 titles in those times.  Although the debate was not about which sport’s drivers are better, the result from 2008 tipped the favor on NASCAR’s side, but Dale Jr. is not yet done entertaining himself with this debate.

Have an interesting take?

Even though there is no scope for deciding who is a better driver as Larson and Verstappen come from completely different sports, Dale Jr. loves the fact that they are talking about it. Grateful to Max Verstappen for responding to the comment; Dale Jr. mentions that “the fans will demand some resolution, or maybe there’s a way for them to come together and share rides.” With the situation seeming unsolvable, only time will tell if there is an arrangement where both drivers are given equal footing, but until then, fans will just have to wait.

Another possible outcome of this rivalry could be both drivers keeping their differences aside and sharing a car like Earnhardt Jr. mentioned. This would be a fun publicity stunt where motorsports fans from both Formula 1 and NASCAR can unite to settle their differences. So far, it is Kyle Larson who has made the bold claim, and Verstappen has tried to remain neutral in this situation; however, if they both are put wheel to wheel, neither of them will be the one to cave first.
