Denny Hamlin, a stalwart of the NASCAR scene, finds himself at an unexpected crossroads. His fate, intricately woven with Joe Gibbs Racing and the innovative Michael Jordan team, now dances on the knife’s edge. Amidst a backdrop of complexities involving JGR, Toyota, and 23XI Racing, Hamlin’s contract negotiations have lingered, raising eyebrows and tempering expectations. With the Cup playoffs looming large on the horizon, the absence of a signed contract only adds to the suspense.
Traditionally, NASCAR teams prefer to lock down contract extensions early in the season. This ensures stability and focus throughout the campaign. Yet Denny Hamlin’s situation deviates from the norm, leaving fans and insiders alike to speculate. Meanwhile, Dale Junior is accusing someone else of the 23XI co-owner’s current contract situation.

In a recent episode of ‘Dale Jr. Download’, NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. and co-host Mike Davis delved into the enigmatic contract situation surrounding Denny Hamlin. Aligning Hamlin’s comment on payments between JGR and Toyota, the No. 88 Chevrolet Camaro driver exclaimed,
“Denny finally, you know, I think then he had spoken about this… He says that the reason why this is taking so long isn’t, you know, a disagreement on payment or is it, you know, a lack of sincerity on his part or Joe Gibbs Racing’s part. He thinks that is all shored up and ready to go,” the two-time Daytona 500 winner stated.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. also added that the holdup for the contract is about agreeing to all the terms and how it affects 23XI Racing and Toyota’s relationship. He said, “You would think that might be separate, right? Like his job at Joe Gibbs, and that contract would not have anything to do with Toyota 23XI and that relationship. Still, apparently, it’s all in the same bucket,” he explained.
“So that’s pretty fascinating. It sounds very complex and complicated and challenging and so, but I think Denny will get what he wants.”

“Watch the sponsorships,” he suggested – his words carrying the weight of experience.
“It’s not about the money, but the gears often turn to the pace of sponsorships. Remember Kyle Busch? That had Kyle Busch going to a different race team. So, would Denny leave JGR to go to his race team? I haven’t considered that; it’s certainly interesting. He certainly has options,” Davis had stated.
“A charter,” the JR Motorsports owner, Dale Earnhardt Jr. had interjected, invoking the magic word, the golden ticket. “That’s the hurdle.” Junior spins his theories with the artistry of a spinner, “If one were available, maybe he’s already toying with the idea. Denny, the mastermind, in brainstorm mode.”
