Kyle Larson is undoubtedly a hugely talented driver and one of the most versatile. If that wasn’t proof enough, he is also the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion. What makes things even better is that racing seems to be running in the family’s blood. Now it seems that his youngest son Cooper has been bitten by the motorsports bug.
In a recent Instagram story from his mother Katelyn Larson, Cooper was spotted tinkering with his father’s sprint car.

Currently, Kyle Larson is preparing for the annual Chili Bowl Nationals, alongside familiar faces. First, he has to compete in the Tulsa Shootout and then comes the Chili Bowl. Speaking of familiar faces, he will be up against the likes of Christopher Bell and Kyle Busch in the Tulsa Shootout. What makes this even more interesting for Larson is that his oldest son, Owen, is also competing.
It seems Larson’s younger son Cooper also has the racing bug like his parents and older sibling. Ahead of the Tulsa Shootout, Kyle Larson’s wife Katelyn Sweet took to Instagram and shared a picture of Cooper working on Yung Money’s car. She captioned the story with, “Working hard!” as fans couldn’t get enough of Cooper’s initial experiences with a race car.
It shouldn’t be a surprise young Cooper is fiddling with his dad’s kart. After all, karting was how Kyle Larson made his debut in the sport, behind his mother’s back. As the story goes, Kyle Larson and his dad saw a neighboring family take their child to an Outlaw Karts event. Mike Larson spent $1200 on a kart and spent every moment working on it. While he intended to teach a young Kyle about operating on a kart, his interests were more on the racing side of things, evident by his remarkable NASCAR career.
At the time, Larson and his dad ran a simple color scheme, as explained by his father. “Really, the No. 1 I would have picked that anyways only because again, we didn’t really have the money to buy vinyl graphics and all that. Although I did, on that car, the fade blue and all that – those were all graphics that I purchased. The big No. 1 on top of the wing, I just went to the hobby store and bought two sheets of vinyl so I could cut out the number. It was because No. 1 was the simplest number to make.”
Perhaps it will be up to young Cooper to fulfill his grandpa Mike’s dream of getting a member of the family to properly learn the mechanics of the kart. After all, Cooper does have a massive head start on his father. While he’s tinkering with the kart at the age of 2, it wasn’t until the age of 7 that Yung Money got into racing. Now, with another season on the horizon, will these events give Kyle Larson the start he needs to win another Cup Series title in 2025?

Kyle Larson is hoping for redemption in 2025
Trending
In all honesty, the #5 driver was one of the best drivers in 2024. He should have been the deserving champion, with the most wins that year. However, the nature of the Playoffs meant that Kyle Larson did not win at the right time, so he was out of contention. Instead, Joey Logano prevailed over Tyler Reddick, Ryan Blaney, and William Byron.
Now the 2025 campaign offers a fresh start with the slate wiped clean. So this is Larson’s chance to get Hendrick Motorsports back on top, along with his teammates. Everything starts with the annual Daytona 500, a race where he has been on pole in the past, but has yet to win the iconic race. However, Larson has a few things lined up before it, with the Tulsa Shootout and Chili Bowl Nationals being the first events.

Back in 2010, Kyle Larson triumphed in the Open Outlaw Kart division but never won the main event. Safe to say, he will be hoping to change that this year and clinch his maiden Tulsa Shootout win. As for the Chili Bowl Nationals, he has won the event twice, back-to-back in 2020 and 2021. This ties him with NASCAR Cup Series alumnus Tony Stewart, but one behind Joe Gibbs Racing rival, Christopher Bell.
However, the outright record holder is Sammy Swindell, who won five times, followed by his son Kevin Swindell on four. Bell is also in a league of his own with his three Chili Bowl Nationals wins. He will be aiming to tie with Kevin Swindell, but Larson is painting a target on Bell’s back to equal him.
