The phrase “Jack of all trades, master of none” falls flat when it comes to Kyle Larson because he is indeed the master of all trades. The #5 driver has been proving his versatility ever since he stepped foot on the racetracks. The 31-year-old is outstanding in both sprint car and stock racing. The people closest to him know just how good he is. One of his teammates even bestowed an incredible honor on him recently.

Kyle Larson’s Hendrick Motorsports teammate Alex Bowman recently spoke about his versatility in an episode of the Dirttrackr Conversations. The driver of the #48 hailed his teammate’s ability to switch from one form of racing to another and heavily appreciated the driver.
“I think Kyle’s at the top of the list on that. It’s incredible to watch. I think a lot of that comes from, he grew up racing winged sprint cars. The winged sprint car success, and I don’t mean this in a disrespectful at all because I think he is the greatest race car driver of our generation, hands down, easily. The winged sprint car thing isn’t the impressive one to me. It’s getting in a dirt late model that you’ve never driven before and instantly being successful. It’s getting in the things he hasn’t done before and being successful,” Bowman said.
Kyle Larson will have a new addition to his racing resume in the 2024 season as Yung Money will take part in his first-ever IndyCar race. The former Cup Series champion will drive for Arrow McLaren in the iconic Indy 500 event.
From Alex Bowman’s comments, it would not be amiss to believe that Larson may have an incredible debut performance and perhaps even finish high up the pack. As far as his teammate is concerned, the 31-year-old makes any transition look easy. However, the #48 might have some reservations about returning to dirt tracks as he recently opened up about the crash that left him out of the circuit for almost seven months.

Rick Hendrick’s star recalls horrific sprint car injury
In the 2023 season, Alex Bowman was one of the two Hendrick Motorsports drivers who failed to make a mark owing to unfortuante injuries. The 30-year-old, like Larson, raced sprint cars midweek and in one such race, he suffered a vicious crash that broke his back and kept him on the sidelines for a whopping 7 months. The driver of the #48 recalled the incident and described it in detail.
“I’m like, man, these things don’t hurt to crash at all. Like, way less than a cup car and then I, kind of like, hung in the air and I’m like, ‘I’m still moving pretty good here’, and when it landed, it sounded like I was at the chiropractor. Like that crunch noise,” Bowman said.
“The EMT followed me back, and he’s like ‘You’re not okay, are you?’” “And I’m like, I don’t think so. So, yeah, I mean I knew something was wrong pretty quickly, you know. Once we got X-rays, and they communicated back and forth with other hospitals and all that. Realized my back was broken, and then just had to a bunch of more X-rays to make sure I could get home and that everything was stable,” he added.
