Seeing the young ones slowly climb up the ranks and make it to a bigger stage tasting success is certainly a treat that can make any parent proud. In the month of March, Hendrick Motorsports‘ ace driver Kyle Larson was on top of his world as his 8-year-old son made his father proud by winning his first Sprint car race—one that later on set the foundation to start the groundwork.

Months after putting a beaming smile on the HMS driver’s face, Owen Larson is back with a bang, this time the young Junior Sprints driver proved his mettle after an impressive finish at the Port City Raceway in Tulsa.

While the Larson name has become synonymous with success in NASCAR with HMS’ Kyle Larson bringing the glory to his team, his 8-year-old son upheld the family tradition by making major strides in his racing career. Besides the 31-year-old who goes around acing race tracks whether be it the local dirt tracks or the fast lanes of NASCAR, the 2nd generation of the Larson family also tasted success when he won his 1st Sprint car race a few months earlier in Millbridge Speedway.

Capitalizing on the momentum, learning from his track days, and wreaking confidence, the young Larson shot for the moon as he finished last day’s KKM Giveback Classic race on a high note with an impressive finish. Larson who drove the CB Industries’ #86 car much like his father did not go down without a fight.

With 2 laps to go, Owen, who was running 4th, cut into the inside of the #92 as the late battle reached its epitome. While the youngster got his lead he came wide in the next corner, giving his #92 rival a shot to gun it which he did, causing a brief contact as the two cars went sliding into the turn while the young drivers hung onto the steering wheels to point themselves off the turn for a photo finish.

Though the 8-year-old failed to capture the win, his performance showed a glimpse of his skills as he finished a decent top 5 yet again making his father proud.

Owen Larson and Brexton Busch are the two young generation driver that has followed their father’s footsteps into the world of racing. While Kyle Busch‘s 8-year-old is more of an outgoing type, popping around with enthusiasm and making friends on the track, the young Larson is more of a reserved type – a man of few words.

Edging out Brexton Busch in the last lap for the win, Larson drove across the finish line, claiming his very first win as his father joined the youngster for the celebration. Even though he was cold and scared to be in front of the camera for the post-race interview, the young guy put on a brave face and answered the interviewer’s questions with simplicity.
