It was a disappointment for Kyle Larson on Sunday. The Hendrick Motorsports driver, who is classified as not a superspeedway racer, was on the verge of delivering one of the best finishes on the track of Talladega. However, all the hopes went for a toss, as Riley Herbst lost control of his car and slammed and collected Larson in the last lap crash. As a result, the 2021 Cup Series champion was relegated outside the top 10.

Nevertheless, Larson’s achievements are not only restricted to the tracks of stock car racing, as he dons the achievements of sprint car racing. But, it seems that his unchallenged coveted position of being the winner is facing a serious threat, as his rival declared war on Larson.

Apart from winning multiple races in the ongoing Cup Series season, Kyle Larson has also displayed similar momentum in the various sprint car racing series. One of the most cherished victories for the driver came from the track of Knoxville for the second time. He led the whole 50 laps of the race after he won the pole for the race. The victory also marked his 32nd victory in the World of Outlaws.

Drawing from the same momentum, it was apparent that the 2x Chili Bowl winner would be the unequivocal winner of the inaugural series of High limit Sprint Car Racing series. However, it seems that it was too early to conclude him as the winner, as a threat lurked in the shadows of Larson.

Although Larson holds a 20-point lead, the 2014 USAC National Midget Racing Series champion Rico Abreu is on the verge of usurping Larson from the top.

With just two races left in the series, Abreu has displayed a strong contention for the championship, along with prize money of $30,000. On the whole, the driver has notched 11 victories in the season and is set to achieve another by surpassing Larson. In an interview with FloRacing, Abreu expressed,I have an amazing team this year. “We’ve really worked hard together to just excel our program and execute, and circumstances like (Lernerville).”

Abreu also expressed, “It’s fun. I don’t really track these points or anything like this. I just want to come in and win these races. I’m just really fortunate to be in this situation to race fast race cars right now.”

However, the race to victory won’t be a cakewalk for Rico Abreu, even if he notches two consecutive wins left in the series. If Larson clinches two consecutive podium finishes, the HMS driver would be crowned as the victor of the series. With the next race set to be hosted at Bridgeport, it will be interesting to see Larson maintain the lead.

In the interview, Larson stated, “Hopefully it’ll be another good show (at Bridgeport). It’s a great racetrack. Really exciting place. I’ve only got to run there once (since the reconfiguration). Sheldon and I had a good race. I got beat at the end.”

“Not sure who all is going to be there yet, but I’m sure we’ll have people from Pennsylvania come on by and a lot of cars from Lernerville hopefully will come. It should be great car count and hopefully I can put together more solid laps than I did (at Lernerville) and get a little better finish.”
