If there’s one thing Kyle Larson knows how to do, it’s make dirt dance. The NASCAR Cup champ might be a superstar on Sundays, but his true love is slinging a sprint car sideways, mud flying and elbows up, just like he did as a kid. “I love sprint car racing. I love dirt car racing,” Larson once said, and he’s never been shy about chasing that passion-even if it means juggling a wild schedule.
For Larson, dirt isn’t just a hobby; it’s a proving ground, a playground, and maybe even a bit of therapy. He’s the rare driver who can school the best in NASCAR and then hop into a dirt car and do it all over again. And in Jacksonville, he just reminded everyone why dirt will always be his first love.

While Kyle Larson dominated Jacksonville, Indy 500 dreams took a hit
While the World of Outlaws race brought Larson a night to remember, the same can’t be said for his Indy 500 quest. Just days before his Jacksonville triumph, Larson faced heartbreak at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Attempting to balance NASCAR, dirt racing, and IndyCar, Larson’s busy 2025 schedule showed the brutal highs and lows of motorsports.
During a crucial practice session for the 2025 Indy 500, Larson suffered a heavy crash in Turn 2. His Arrow McLaren car lost traction and spun, pancaking the outside wall and breaking the right front suspension before hitting the wall again. Though Larson walked away uninjured, the wreck left his car badly damaged. It raised questions about his readiness for the biggest stage in IndyCar.
Larson was candid after the incident. He blaming himself for forgetting to adjust the weight jack before entering the corner, which contributed to the understeer that sent him into the wall. He tried to find a silver lining, saying, “Honestly, though, I’m happy to crash my first IndyCar and live through it,” but admitted he never quite felt comfortable with the car’s balance during testing.

The crash quickly became a talking point across motorsport circles. Fans and drivers expressed support for Larson. But some F1 fans took to social media to troll him. They started comparing his IndyCar struggles to Formula 1 stars like Max Verstappen. The trolling stemmed from ongoing debates about cross-series talent and whether NASCAR stars can truly hang with the world’s best open-wheel racers.
Despite the setback, Larson’s determination remains unshaken. His focus now shifts to recovering in time for qualifying. Larson very well knows that in racing, fortunes can change in an instant-sometimes from the garage to the victory lane in just a few days.
