Katelyn Larson denies any hand in Kyle's success—do you believe her, or is there more to the story?

Kyle Larson and his love for sprint racing are well known. Even after winning the top prize in stock racing, the NASCAR Cup Series Champion likes to re-visit his roots. Since the age of 7, Larson has been racing in the outlaw karts. Post this, he raced open-wheel cars, Sprint Cars, and the United States Auto Club (USAC) midget, which even earned him the nickname “Yung Money.” The NASCAR star has earned tremendous success in sprint car racing and is regarded as one of the best in the sport.

His passion for sprint cars led him to start the High Limit Racing Series in 2021. This venture is a family-run operation. Kyle Larson started it with his brother-in-law and five-time World of Outlaws champion Brad Sweet. Larson’s wife, Katelyn, who also grew up watching sprint racing, is often seen helping around in the series. She was recently in a conversation with Kenny Wallace, where the veteran praised her involvement on the track as well as the venture, which she humbly turned down, saying ‘I don’t do much.’

The popularity of High Limit Racing can also be credited to the attractive race purses the Series offers. It was only last year that Larson announced that HLR would expand its schedule to more than 50 race nights and would increase the purse to $5 million in total prize money for the season.

Perhaps the most popular track in the event is the Silver Dollar Speedway, which is also Larson and Sweet’s home track. Kenny Wallace was on the track for the recent High Limit race, where he saw Katelyn and even Brad’s wife, Rachel, busy at work. This is what urged him to ask Katelyn about her involvement in on-track activities.

She replied, “I’m not too much involved in the high limit racing side of it more or the just the Silver Dollar Speedway promotion side of it um Rachel does I would say most everything for Silver Dollar. Even the weekly shows um but I come for that week and help because it’s you know our biggest event and because we own the series and the track promotion like we need all hands on deck for that week.”

According to Katelyn, she’s there to support and help out in any way possible. “If the (ticket) lines are long. If they need help in concession stands, if they need help at the pit booth, wherever, but my job that week is to run the bikini contest and promote that for Friday night,” she added.

Post the main event, the Gold Cup Race of Champions, the track hosts the Gold Cup bikini contest, which is handled by Katelyn. Even Kenny Wallace was seen judging the contest. The event garners a lot of attention. It’s what allows everyone on track to unwind, let loose, have a beer, and enjoy the show. Reiterating this, Katelyn said, “It’s such a big event and such a big hype around it with all the crew guys, and it’s just you know they have such a long year on the road and any kind of fun entertainment in the season after a long night of racing um to get them to come judge or to come watch drink a beer whatever we just try to have fun with it.”

Katelyn met Larson through her brother, Brad Sweet, who is also a professional driver, in 2014—knowing that the Hendrick Motorsports driver has a history of competing in the World of Outlaws sprint car series where he’s had intense battles with Sweet. Brad Sweet is a popular name in sprint racing and has amassed more than 89 career wins and 280 plus podium finishes. Sweet also had a brief career in NASCAR (2010-2013), where he ran in the Truck and Xfinity Series. To Katelyn, Brad has been like a mentor since growing up.

Katelyn told Kenny, “I’ve been close with Brad. I think just because our paths are constantly crossing. And we have the same passion and that’s dirt racing, dirt racing in general but dirt racing trying to grow the sport. But yeah,  he’s always calling to bounce ideas off of me and he’s definitely a big mentor in my life, like if I have a question about business or even just about personal life.”

According to her, she gets to learn a lot from the personality of Brad Sweet. She said, “He always has a positive outlook on everything he’s always a half glass full. He’s always encouraging and just you know life is short let’s have fun, but like (also) let’s grind.”

The shared passion of Kyle, Brad, and Katelyn is instrumental in growing High Limit racing and its increasing popularity. What are your takes on how the series has grown? Let us know in the comments below.
