Is Kyle Larson's failed Double attempt a sign of his limits, or just a bump in the road?

It almost feels like Kyle Larson’s playoff crash faded from everyone’s minds since the news of The Double surfaced. By now, fans must have an idea of the fact that Kyle Larson made his debut in IndyCar back in May. Although he qualified 5th, the end result was an unsatisfactory P18 finish for the Hendrick Motorsports driver. Arrow McLaren decided to give him a seat for the race so the driver could achieve his goal of participating in The Double; however, the rains came pouring down on the execution.

After completing the Indianapolis 500, Kyle Larson flew to Charlotte, where he was supposed to participate in the Coca-Cola 600 to complete The Double. But rains poured all over his plans when he got there, forcing the suspension of the race. Larson isn’t one to give up, and almost everyone knows that. Consequently, he has enrolled himself for round 2 of attempting the double. Who knows, maybe this time he has a win under his sleeve.

Well, Bob Pockrass won’t leave him alone, will he?

Bob Pockrass pokes fun at Kyle Larson with a witty title

Bob Pockrass has been at the center of Larson’s The Double Attempt. He also wrote a piece about it for the Fox Sports website to take things further. When Pockrass did what he often does and shared the article on X, it caught Kyle Larson’s eye. Knowing that the rains were the reason why Larson couldn’t complete The Double on his first try, Pockrass used witty wordplay to title the article. “Weather or not? Kyle Larson set for an Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 attempt in 2025.”

It does not take a genius to see what Pockrass did there. Using weather to poke fun at what happened to Larson for the first time in place of whether, Pockrass proved that not only is he an important part of the NASCAR journalistic approach, but he is a witty man too.

The second the article came on the radar of the 2021 Cup Series Champion, he did not take offense but played along with the joke. Larson retweeted Pockrass’ post and wrote a caption saying, “Bob, I told you to stop talking about the weather.”

Is Kyle Larson's failed Double attempt a sign of his limits, or just a bump in the road?

Have an interesting take?

Not only does this clear out Pockrass was not going at it with ill intention, but still used his First Amendment to have a little fun. So let’s take a look at the story about the weather and Kyle Larson in depth, shall we?

Kyle Larson, Rick Hendrick, and even Zak Brown have immense faith in the California native completing The Double in 2025. There was a strong chance that Larson would have already achieved the goal if it wasn’t up to the rains. The main reason why Larson got late to Charlotte was that the Indianapolis 500 started 7 hours later than planned because of rain delays. After waiting that long, it was only fair for Larson to complete the commitment he made to McLarens.

However, this played to a disadvantage for his Cup Series team, Hendrick Motorsports. Firstly, they did not have their star driver in the car during the kickoff, and secondly, the results were not impressive.

Thirdly, having Larson completely miss up on a race also meant denying himself the chance to score playoff points through the stages of the race. Unfortunately, as Larson arrived, rain began to fall at Charlotte Motor Speedway too, leading to a postponement and eventual end to the race after 249 of the scheduled 400 laps.

With Larson’s attempt being foiled by The Double rain showers during that day, he had no other choice but to let go of the dream and bring them back. That was until recently when he persuaded Rick Hendrick to allow him to race in IndyCar again, besides NASCAR.
