It’s not uncommon for kids to dream of following in their parents’ footsteps. For eight-year-old Owen Larson, that dream just became a reality. The son of 2021 Cup Series champion Kyle Larson scored his first career win at Millbridge Speedway, leaving his proud father thrilled. The race was not only a momentous occasion for the young racer but also a big payday—at least for an eight-year-old.

In an Instagram video uploaded by Kyle, Owen can be seen preparing for the race as his dad has a few racing-related and worldly lessons to teach him.

Owen asks how much money he would get if he wins, to which Kyle responds, “I think like $200, but you gotta give 70% to Dad, the car owner. You’re racing for 30%. Don’t get like crazy aggressive, but just squeeze them a little bit. Then they’ll be like, ‘What is this little red-head doing?’ and then they’ll lift. Then you’ll have a free spot.”

And it seems that Owen took his father’s advice to heart. In a post-race interview, Kyle said, “After the race on Sunday, I saw him. He was like, ‘What was that, Dad!? That was stupid!’ I said, ‘Well, you better do everything perfect on Tuesday, or I’m gonna be riding your b*tt.'”

Pointing toward Owen, he added, “And you did. You did great!”

Kyle Larson is not the only father in NASCAR whose son is a racing prodigy

Just like Kyle Larson’s son, Kyle Busch‘s 7-year-old son Brexton has also been following in his dad’s footsteps. Brexton recently made his West Coast Bandolero debut at The Bullring in Las Vegas.

The Bullring holds a special place in the Busches’ hearts. It is the very same track where Kyle Busch began his racing career and where his grandfather, Tom Busch, won the track’s inaugural race in 1985. And now, it has become the stage for Brexton to make his mark in the racing world.

Last year, he earned his second consecutive track championship in the Beginner Box Stock division at Mountain Creek (NC) Speedway—a testament to his hard work and determination.
