The Stewart-Haas Racing driver hit Larson at 130 mph, and fortunately, against the passenger side of the #5. The impact destroyed the braces of the car, bringing Larson’s race to a premature stop. Speaking to FOX Sports correspondent Bob Pockrass, Larson shares his thoughts on the big decision. With effective methods brought in to know more about the crash, Larson’s said, “Yeah, I mean I’m not an engineer. So, I don’t know. Like I can’t look at it, and really tell you, give you an opinion on what they did with the changes or what.
“But, I am very happy that you know me being in that wreck at Talladega and seeing how close, it got to be really bad, you seeing them go straight into action, and you compile data, you make quick moves on improving the safety. Something I was happy to see so.. Yea I think it’s a great thing and great for them to move along quickly,” said Larson showing his affirmation for the proceedings.

For one, almost three pounds of eight has been cut off from the front end of the vehicle. Secondly, durable braces will be adjusted as well, which makes sure the driver is safer than earlier on the track. Thirdly, Bumpers will also undergo a reduction in weight to lighten the frontal impact. However, the most anticipated decision was the changes in the passenger side of the vehicle.

Steel plates will be added to strengthen the car and reduce the risk during a cross-collision. Amidst all this, Preece himself has been a big supporter of the decision. While many will be looking to blame him for the wreck, Preece has reasons more than one to be one with NASCAR on this one.

“We need to do something and we are doing something… I have a wife and kid on the way, and I don’t want to put my wife in that position. I’m thankful that NASCAR’s taken the initiative at doing something… This is a step in the right direction for sure.” While lives continue to be at risk as is the nature of the sport, it will interesting to see how these updates pan out four weeks from now at the Atlanta Motor Speedway.
