What an amazing sport NASCAR is. It is a complete package of laughter and heartbreak. It is not just the racing that is the main attraction, but also the paraphernalia that comes along with it—the victories and the losses; the banters and controversies; the wrecks and occasional fistfights.
Another attraction is the post-race commentaries and podcasts that deal with an array of subjects and also give insights into the complexities of the sport. And the latest subject of discussion across all forums in NASCAR is, once again, Ross Chastain.

NASCAR enthusiasts just cannot have enough of Chastain. Week after week, the Trackhouse Racing Team driver is mired in some sort of controversy or the other—whether it is making contact with a fellow driver on the track or landing a punch on a fellow driver’s face.
The latest show to discuss him is Kyle Larson‘s “High Limit Room” podcast. While talking to his co-hosts, Brad Sweet and Dillon Welch, on a variety of subjects, the Hendrick Motorsports driver expressed his views on Ross Chastain, “I was upset with him two weeks ago,” he said, adding, “I kind of love him. I think Ross is great. He is like, I think he is sort of owning it.
“And I think he has got the potential to be more popular than Chase Elliott, so I think it’s awesome. He’s moving the needle.”
Larson then added to his reasoning, “And you need a guy [Ross Chastain] in the sport. There is no reason we can’t all be vanilla. You gotta have somebody that is just, that goes against the grain a little bit. It causes a little controversy.”
The #5 Chevy driver also attested, “I think he is great for the sport. I think having different persons is great, and he’s definitely owning it and, like. does not give a s**t at all.”
Several enthusiasts agree with Larson’s opinion on Chastain

Kyle Larson definitely surprised many with his unusual opinions about Chastain—even after their recent tussle on the track. Popular motorsports journalist Jeff Gluck posted about Larson’s podcast on Twitter, adding the caption,
“A lot of people may not realize@KyleLarsonRacin has a podcast, too. In the latest episode, he goes into great detail on the Denny battle and talks the Noah/Ross fight. On Ross: “I think he’s got the potential to be more popular than Chase Elliott.”
Nonetheless, it is the fans who are owning it in the comment section. On Reddit, a fan wrote, “Jr. was talking about this the other day. Trackhouse needs to start marketing him hard. The potential to make him a star is right there: just have to ‘walk through the door’ in Dale’s words.”
A fan got creative and gave an interesting moniker to Chastain, “The Melonidator.”

Another enthusiast added, “Honestly? Yeah. Kinda. Chase’s core base is guys that rooted for his dad, carried over for Gordon, or hopped on from Jr. If, and this is a big if, IF NASCAR could grow to a base that doesn’t have those previous ties, I could totally see Ross as a popular guy among incoming fans. But I’d say that award should still have Chase’s name penciled in for a while.”

Although fans may side with their favorite drivers, there is no denying the fact all these three drivers have already created their mark as exceptional drivers. While Kyle and Chase are Cup Series champions, it’s Ross Chastain who is ruling this season. He currently leads the points table and has a great shot at etching his name on the cup.
