Kyle Larson Pins Down His Setback After He Reveals Hendrick Motorsports Faulty Strategy

This past weekend, Michael Jordan’s prodigy Tyler Reddick was able to capitalize on the late restart to hold off his team owner Denny Hamlin, take the chequered, and enter the Round of 12. A key factor that helped drivers, like him and his boss, to a favorable result was the judicious tire strategies. However, one driver for whom the narrative changed was Kyle Larson.

As a result, the driver laid bare the reasons that led to such consequences in his post-race interview.

Kyle Larson reveals the reasons behind losing his position in Kansas

In both the playoff races at Darlington and Kansas, the speedster of Hendrick Motorsports seemed indomitable. While his teammates and other fellow drivers struggled to stay clear of any major on-track incidents, Kyle Larson seemed to be racing in his own league. By taking an early lead, the driver seemed to be a race favorite and hoped to repeat the Darlington feat in Kansas.

Larson who led for 99 laps eventually lost his lead, after the other drivers chose to pit before the end of stage 2, but the No 5 chose to remain on the track and hoped to take the fresh set of tires for the ending laps of the race. However, the strategy proved to be costly for the driver as he fell back.

Although the 2021 Cup Series champion tried to regain his position during the late restart, was unable to surpass Tyler Reddick’s #45, and eventually finished fourth in the race. On account of this, Larson, in his interview with Frontstretch Media, revealed the reasons behind the results.

He expressed, “Well, we just stayed out on tires. We had 10 laps on them and there were a lot of people that pitted for four. I had a bad restart and almost spun at one and two and then lost my track position and my right rear tire on the first corner so just kind of had to nurse it to the next pit stop and fight from there.”

Nevertheless, with the Kansas race over, two different winners have punched their tickets to the next stage of the Cup Series playoffs. It was Darlington for Kyle Larson, while the 23XI Racing driver showed their dominance on the track of Kansas.

Tyler Reddick earned his second victory of the season after he made a three-wide pass and never let go of his advantage. In his post-race interview, the 23XI Racing driver expressed, “Just an outstanding job by this whole 23XI team.”

“We had really good pace, we just couldn’t get ahead of Denny there, but chaos ensued. Then the bottom lane opened up there and it was crazy.”
