Boasting two victories, a remarkable ten top-5 finishes, and an impressive twelve top-10s, Kyle Larson has undeniably showcased steadfast performance throughout the 25 races of the 2023 series thus far. Yet, when the lens is zoomed in on superspeedways, his track record paints a less flattering picture.

Indeed, this very sentiment was echoed by the HMS driver himself. During the presser before the Watkins Glen showdown, Larson candidly acknowledged this shortfall. He further intimated plans to refine certain aspects, all aimed at bolstering his performance as the playoffs beckon.

Launching into the 2023 Cup Season, Larson’s Daytona 500 debut was met with a bitter end; a final lap debacle saw him crash, relegating him to an 18th-place finish. The misfortune was further echoed when, at Talladega Racetrack, amidst a dramatic turn of events, he collided with Ryan Preece, finishing a dismal 33rd.

The numbers don’t lie, and they paint a clear narrative: Superspeedway tracks have been a thorn in Larson’s side, given his inability to cruise past their finish lines. However, with the curtains about to draw on Daytona – another chapter in the Superspeedway saga – Larson emanates an aura of optimism concerning his consistency during the impending playoffs.

Amidst the bustling pre-race rendezvous at Watkins Glen, Larson shed light on his ambitions to see himself qualify for the next playoff rounds through consistency. Reflecting on his playoff stratagem, he elucidated, “Consistency is the most important thing when I think about the playoffs, but thankfully there’s only one superspeedway in the playoffs. So, we’ve had DNF’d every superspeedway this year, so that’s where a lot of that’s come from.”

He further articulated his drive for excellence, acknowledging his team’s relentless efforts and underscoring the inherent yearning to elevate performance. In his words, “You still want to be a little bit better, and you would love to get some wins to lock yourself into the next round.”

Besides that, he unveiled a glimpse into his game plan for the Daytona Superspeedway, marking the final race of the regular season.

Ahead of the showdown at Watkins Glen, where Larson’s duel with Austin Dillon for 19th place resulted in a dramatic twist—a touch that led both vehicles into a spin—Larson candidly reflected on his season’s roller-coaster journey on superspeedways.

As the regular season’s curtain draws near with just one chapter left to unfold, many are curious about Larson’s strategy for Daytona, especially given his tumultuous track record at superspeedways this year. Addressing this curiosity, he expressed, “That’s the goal for me every time, just to finish, but not able to reach that goal this year. So, I would love to go there and finish honestly.”

He also added, with a hint of jest, “I would hate to end this year and have a DNF on all the superspeedways. That’d be pretty embarrassing.”
