NASCAR reporters find themselves in a tricky spot trying to cover this weekend’s auto racing events. On one hand, you have the marquee All-Star race weekend, meanwhile, there’s also Kyle Larson’s qualifying run for the Indy 500 race. So it’s quite a handful to have the two events running simultaneously.

However, trying to connect better with NASCAR viewers, Jeff Gluck has been keeping close tabs on Larson’s Indy 500 qualifying run. The HMS star had a troublesome practice run the entire week due to rain and constant changes to his race car by the Arrow Mclaren team. But it seems like he is doing pretty well on his qualifying runs.

Gluck, in trying to keep the fans updated about Kyle Larson’s qualifying run, shared timely posts via his X account. “You can hear the excitement in Leigh Diffey’s voice as Kyle Larson jumps to P5 in fastest single lap speed. And he’s now P6 in four-lap average as well. McLaren has three cars in the top six on four-lap average (as does Penske). 👀”

However, one particular sour race fan wasn’t too pleased that Gluck extensively focused on the Indy 500 qualifiers. Especially when the All-Star event is gearing up for his special weekend. Sharing his frustration, the user wrote, “Seriously Jeff? Are you obsessed or something? Like seriously.”

Well, Jeff Gluck had a pretty logical response to this fan’s outburst, stating, “I assume there’s a lot of interest from my friends here on X about how Larson is doing since it’s largely a NASCAR audience, so I thought people would want updates on him. Open to feedback if that’s incorrect.” Even NASCAR fans jumped in defense of Gluck and encouraged him to continue his good work.

Fans appreciate Jeff Gluck’s timely update on Kyle Larson’s qualifying run for the Indy 500

Kyle Larson is only the fifth NASCAR driver to attempt the double. Only Tony Stewart has managed to successfully complete the 1100-mile run on Memorial Day weekend. Therefore, to see another driver having a go at the historic milestone does make it a big deal for NASCAR as well. Sharing a similar sentiment, a fan wrote, “It’s a big deal. Keep us updated Jeff!”

Larson is perhaps the unique driver whose racing talents are just confined within the racetracks of NASCAR. Therefore, his story indeed keeps the fans fascinated. Appreciating Gluck’s efforts, a user in response to a sour comment wrote, “Great updates, thanks! It’s been good to get quickly up to speed on things. The Larson story is super interesting”.

Many of the fans aren’t able to watch the live Indy qualifying telecast and therefore have kept in touch thanks to Gluck’s timely reporting. “Keep us updated. Always appreciate it. Not able to watch. So it’s nice to keep tabs via your social feed.” Another user chimed in.

A Kyle Larson loyalist in a sarcastic tone demanded constant updates on his Indy 500 qualifying run. He shared, “I want all the Larson updates all the time. You do you Jeff”.

Some race fans appreciate all forms of motorsports apart from just NASCAR. Sharing the sentiment on behalf of those few fans, a user replied, “Yes, I’m interested! There are those of us who enjoy NASCAR, Indy Car, F1, etc.”.

Given that the heat and qualifying race for the All-Star event are scheduled for Saturday, it shouldn’t be an issue if Kyle Larson’s qualifying run is given preference. In fact, the HMS star himself will be back in the No. 5 to compete in the heats and get a good starting position in trying to defend his 2023 All-Star win.
