According to Larson, participating in the Indy 500 would be the culmination of a long-held dream. Although, not just for him, but also for his fellow racing legend, Jeff Gordon.
In an interview with IndyCar on NBC, he stated, Larson stated, “Something I wanted to do for a while and I feel that the time is right now to do it. You know kinda live out a dream of mine and my dad’s and Jeff Gordon’s and even Rick Hendrick’s.”
“So obviously I want to do a good job. I want to… Obviously, win the race. But I know how difficult it is… I try to keep expectations realistic.”

In a recent IndyCar press conference, Gordon confirmed what Larson had earlier revealed – a shared dream was about to come to fruition. Although, Gordon himself never graced the Indy 500 circuit, nor ventured widely into other racing series. During the press conference, Gordon mentioned, “I mean like Kyle said, it’s true. I did say that to him that you know he’s gonna be able to live out a dream of mine… Every racecar driver’s dream if you are racing around Indianapolis, is to get here and compete at this facility.”
Gordon further shared that racing at the Indy 500 had always been on his professional radar. However, a myriad of commitments within the NASCAR universe interwove to shape his career trajectory.
