The introduction of the Next Gen cars seems to have come with some recurring themes throughout the season, driver safety being one of them.  After Kevin Harvick and Denny Hamlin spoke out against NASCAR about the driver safety issues, Kyle Larson expressed how his eyes were opened and he realized that NASCAR only wanted the drivers to say things that would befit only NASCAR.

Larson stated, “I feel like we are given the narrative at the beginning of the season to say what we are supposed to say and that only benefits NASCAR. So I think when it gets to a point now where we are all fed up. You have two of the most experienced guys in the sport, two biggest voices speaking out on the driver’s behalf, it’s good and that’s what a lot of times makes a change or starts the process anyways.”

He continued, “Those two guys have the most experience, been through multiple generations of cars. They’ve probably had the most hits out of all of us. Their words are way heavier than some of ours. I’ve enjoyed seeing Kevin being very outspoken and I think because of him going through the things that he’s gone through, fires and just dumb stuff happening. That’s why I think NASCAR has been quicker to, at least try and say that they are working on stuff.”

Harvick first faced a problem where his car was set on fire; a few races later at Bristol, disaster struck him once more, as his lug nut gave up the will to live, leading to his tire falling out of the car during his pit stop. Harvick who is now a veteran of the sport did not want to hold back and decided to tear apart NASCAR with a scathing series of public statements against the organization’s will to work towards improving the car and drivers’ safety.
