The media landscape in NASCAR has changed a ton in the modern era. Drivers are using their social media platforms to share important updates about their racing as well as their personal lives. However, Dale Jr.’s entry into the podcast world has been monumental, allowing the fans access to unfiltered and raw stories about their favorite stars.
Denny Hamlin is one of the influential figures alongside Dale Jr. when it comes to hot takes and opinions about NASCAR. But he’s infamous for stirring up controversy along with his insight into everything that goes around the sport. His podcast’s name, Actions Detrimental, perfectly fits his personality in the way he operates. But there’s a cool story on how this name came about, and you’ll be surprised to know that his rival Kyle Larson played a major role in it.

FOX Sports had a special segment with the playoff drivers. He put the drivers under the spotlight and asked them to name their podcast show if they had one. The Dale Jr. Download, Stacking Pennies, Door Bumper Clear, and of course Actions Detrimental are some of the most famous shows out there.
The likes of Daniel Suarez, Martin Truex Jr., Chase Briscoe, and Christopher Bell had some unique ideas. The SHR driver decided to name his podcast “Risky Brisckie’s Business.” Meanwhile, Truex Jr. decided to stick to his hobbies of fishing and hunting: “It’d be something around “Hunting and Fishing With Me.” I don’t know.”
However, when the question was presented to Kyle Larson, he made a shocking revelation. He stated, “I don’t know. I came up with the name ‘Actions Detrimental’ [for Hamlin], but I don’t think I would have my own NASCAR-style podcast.” The HMS star said this to Bob Pockrass. On the other hand, the likes of Chase Elliott, William Byron, and Austin Cindric weren’t interested in entertaining the idea of starting a podcast.
Who could’ve guessed that Hamlin’s on-track rival would be behind the naming of his podcast show? The Actions Detrimental podcast is produced by Dale Jr. Dirty Mo Media Production and airs weekly. Apart from managing on-track duties, the JGR star has managed to appear on his show every week since 2023. Despite being a polarizing figure, on YouTube alone, his show has garnered 28,000 subscribers who tune in every week.
And like he usually does, he chimed in with his opinions about last week’s playoff race in Las Vegas. In doing so, he also shared his take on how his playoff run has been so far and how he plans to advance in the championship 4 race.

Hamlin has dodged a few bullets in the playoffs after sub-par showings at Atlanta and Watkins Glen. All thanks to his P4 finish at Bristol, he managed to steady his ship and started to build steam. But despite making it through the tough stretch of the first two rounds, Hamlin’s nowhere near his best, at least not like how he performed in the regular season.
Despite finishing inside of the top 10 in his last four of the five playoff races, he is on the wrong side of the cutline, 27 points away from the safe zone. Homestead Miami Speedway has been a good track for Hamlin in his racing career, but last year a mechanical failure proved detrimental to his championship hopes. And while he has three career wins at the racetrack, none of them have come in the Gen-7 car. So how does the #11 team prepare for what is a vital race in terms of reaching the Phoenix finale?
This is what the JGR driver thinks about how his team will prepare for the race. “You just rely on notes from the last time you were there. And you kind of create offsets from what has progressed in your cars and your setups from a year ago. Then you put it all on a sheet of paper, and you try to put this Lego piece together in the correct way. You do sim work, and you just trust the process.” Hamlin said this on the Actions Detrimental podcast.

The #11 team has certainly missed their markers on tracks like Kansas and Vegas. And while Hamlin and his team are feeling optimistic about their chances, the pressure is on them to turn the tides in their favor before it is too late.
