This has been a very happening year for Kyle Larson. Right after finishing his first-ever Indy 500 and coming to terms with the Coca-Cola 600 debacle, Larson headed to Lawrenceburg Speedway for the High Limit Racing Series. He hoped to secure his second win of the season to help rinse the bitter taste from The Double. And that’s precisely what unfolded.

After not visiting Victory Lane in his beloved series since the season opener, Kyle Larson squeezed past pole-sitter Rico Abreu, Corey Day, and Parker Price-Miller to end that winless drought. But this win was special for several other reasons, including a very noble cause.

It’s no secret that Lady Luck hasn’t been favoring Kyle Larson lately. From the Indy 500 delay to the Coca-Cola 600’s abrupt end, Larson just couldn’t seem to catch a break. Not just that. The High Limit Racing co-owner was on a 10-race losing streak in his sprint car series. Fortunately, all that changed as he arrived at Lawrenceburg Speedway. Eager to catch up with points leader and series co-owner Brad Sweet, Larson delivered a stellar run on the dirt track to get back up to speed.

But instead of celebrating the win with a few bottles of champagne, Larson shifted focus to a major issue concerning many young people. As the ‘High Roller’ after winning the race, Kyle Larson could pick a charity to donate the win bonus. This came after the series announced: “Thanks to an anonymous donor, every time a full-time High Roller wins an HLR race this year, a $1,000 donation will be made to the charity of their choice.” Larson’s choice? Treatment of a condition that affects roughly 6.7 million people in the United States alone, including a few close family members of NASCAR drivers: Alopecia.

Insider Matt Weaver shared on X, High Limit High Rollers, or in this case, a tour co-owner…@KyleLarsonRacin gets to pick a charity to send a bonus to with his win. Kyle says he needs help because he wants to support an Alopecia charity but doesn’t know the best one.” For those wondering why Kyle Larson would choose to donate to alopecia research, Weaver highlighted that Larson’s daughter, Audrey, had dealt with Alopecia in the past. But she wasn’t the only one close to Kyle Larson and the NASCAR community who’s battled the hair loss illness.

Through the years, Kyle Busch’s wife, Samantha Busch, has been one of the most outspoken figures who has helped those dealing with Alopecia. Through her battle with the illness, Samantha Busch has been able to spread awareness and bring more eyes to the disease. Sharing her 16-month journey through an Instagram post, Samantha wrote, “I began openly talking about my sudden onset hair loss and was blown away by how many of you reached out experiencing the same.”

“I’m grateful that my hair shed has stopped 🙌 and that I’ve been able to gain my confidence back by wearing alternative hair (wigs, halos, ponytails clip-ins, etc). I’m here for those of you experiencing this journey as well because I fully understand how upsetting and overwhelming it can be 💗,” she added. As for Kyle Larson’s daughter, he and his wife first went public with the news in September 2022, during Alopecia Awareness month.

Sharing a picture of a customized shirt with a photo of him and his daughter, Kyle wrote, “This one hits home for [Katelyn] and I. Our daughter, Audrey, was first diagnosed with hair loss when she was 18 months old.” In a subsequent interview with Toby Christie, Katelyn Larson revealed, “It took a little bit of time to figure out really what it was and if it was reoccurring. In the beginning, it was just little pieces that I could cover, and it was no big deal. It would grow right back. The last time that she lost her hair, she lost a significant amount.”

That said, it appears Kyle Larson is joining hands with others to help all those who combat Alopecia. Speaking of which, those eager to know about Samantha Busch’s journey with the autoimmune disease will be happy to know that things are heading in the right direction.

Over the past few years, Samantha Busch has tried her best to reduce the effects of Alopecia with significant help from her doctors. Following a diligent routine of Minoxidil and Finasteride, both compounds that promote hair growth, results started to show for her. With Alopecia having different variants, getting the right treatment underway as soon as possible is vital to avoid further irreversible shedding. Fortunately, Samantha’s regular visits to her dermatologist bore fruit.

She shared a few months ago on Instagram, “They [doctors] diagnosed me with a certain type of Alopecia after doing the biopsy, like alopecia areata, and had a certain pattern. So, then they wanted me to try a couple of things. I had the reactions from oral minoxidil and finasteride. And so we were looking into some hardcore med that’s out now. I have good news!! Clumps of hair were not coming out.”

According to Samantha, her treatment with minoxidil and finasteride worked wonders for her hair growth. Compared to previous months, when she would lose a handful of hair each time she showered, the shedding had reduced significantly. She concluded, “Finally, I am so excited to report that finally, finally, the shed has stopped.”

After looking at how Alopecia can be managed with proper intervention, we would urge those struggling with similar problems to not shy away from reaching out for help in due time.
