Samantha Busch's Italy trip wasn't all glamour—do NASCAR families face more struggles than we realize?

If someone used the two-week Olympic break, it has to be Kyle Busch. The Busch family took a wholesome vacation to Italy. Starting from the capital city of Rome, visiting the Vatican City and the Sistine Chapel. While exploring the city, they also visited the famed Colosseum and the beautiful Trevi Fountain.

They also went on a long boat journey to the Amalfi Coast. What makes this trip wholesome for them, especially for Samantha, is a visit to Naples, where she visited her father’s childhood home. After coming back, she got emotional as she spoke about that surreal experience.

As part of their trip, they had planned a visit to Samantha’s father, Steve Sarcinella’s childhood home in  Caivano, Naples. After visiting, Samantha took to Instagram with a carousel of posts. In the caption of the post, she spoke about how the whole experience was grounding for her. She wrote, “he grew up in Italy and came over by boat with four other siblings ages 18 months to 6 years old. my dad being the oldest (my Nonnie was clearly a saint). He explained how they grew up poor, how they worked their whole lives, starting so young to help the family pay for food and other necessities.” In one of the posts, Steve talks about how they did not even have a bathroom, just the one room, where his entire family lived.

According to Samatha, the visit put things in perspective for her. She realized how her father always tried to keep her humble growing up, instilling his childhood values in them. It was truly special for her to share this experience with her kids, Lennix and Brexton. The Busch family is back from vacation, and Kyle Busch has entered race mode! However, somewhere Samantha’s mind is still wandering in that one-room house in Caivano. She recently posted a throwback post again talking about that moving experience that she experienced.

In the video, Samatha re-visited that experience as she said, “Growing up my dad always instilled a strong work ethic in us he always taught us to be grateful he always told us stories about where he grew up but I could not wrap my mind around the situation he was talking about but when I went there (his childhood home) and stood at the front door where my dad had been born and spent the first 6 years of his life. I was in utter disbelief.”

Have an interesting take?

For Samantha her children playing in the same courtyard, as her father did, was surreal. The experience for her and her children visiting their roots was humbling. Now, if we were to come back to reality. Kyle Busch played the Richmond race, a P12 is not enough for his playoff chances. What is next for the veteran driver of Richard Childress Racing, who is struggling this season?

As one of only three drivers to amass 100 wins in a single series, Kyle Busch’s racing resume is undeniably stellar. However, the stark contrast between his historic achievements and his current winless streak is striking. Sitting 18th in the standings with just two top-five finishes, Busch is facing an unusually challenging season. Kyle Busch is currently staring at the possibility of not making the playoffs this year. In his 20 Cup series seasons, he has made the playoffs on 9 occasions.

In the 2024 season, he has only one pole position, two top 5s and six top 10s. If we look at the playoff picture for Busch things things look tough for him. Currently, Busch is in the 19th position -119 points below the cutoff line. Mathematically, Busch can still qualify on points, provided he consistently finishes in the top 5 in all three remaining races, coupled with a few good stage points in all the races. However, what would make things simpler for Busch is bagging a win.

The upcoming races are at Michigan, Daytona, and Darlington. Out of the three Busch has the best shot at Michigan International Speedway. Busch can try and achieve a win here, just not like his teammate Austin Dillon did at Richmond. Moving to Daytona, Busch has a P7 there, which is also an opportunity to get in the top five and finish with good points. Lastly, at Darlington, he has a P11 in the 2023 season. A win is what Busch should aim for. What do you think are his chances of qualifying for the playoffs? Let us know in the comments below.
