The reason fans love NASCAR so much is the family legacies. Be it Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Dale Earnhardt Jr., the Pettys or the Elliotts, the list is long. But nothing is better than a father-son duo battling it out on the track. And Dale Earnhardt Jr. got that opportunity several times in the Cup Series. But the most special one has to be the first one! It was the 1998 NASCAR exhibition race at Twin Ring Motegi Speedway, Japan. Junior defeated The Intimidator in that race and finished 6th, while Dale Sr. came in 8th. Well, this is not the outcome Kyle Busch would be hoping for as he gears up to take on his son Brexton Busch for the first time!
After all, it’s the race between NASCAR’s winningest driver and, hopefully, the future of the sport. For a long time, Kyle Busch has wanted to race his son Brexton. And finally, the time has come now that Brexton is old enough for them to race in the same class. And Rowdy’s not planning to go easy on his son. Ahead of the race, he has revealed his approach to the race and how he plans to defeat his nine-year-old star.

Kyle Busch wants nothing less than a win against Brexton
If you recall, a few days back, Kyle Busch shared a dramatic X post about some announcement he was about to make. The post read, “News at 18:51 on Monday (24th March).” Many anticipated this as him leaving RCR for JGR. Since #18 was what he drove for coach Gibbs. And what did we get on Monday? An announcement of him racing Brexton! It turns out 18:51 are the number of their cars at Millbridge Speedway. Brexton is piloting the #18, and Kyle is in the #51.
So, on 24th March at 18:51, his X post was, “For the FIRST TIME EVER, @brextonbusch and I will race head-to-head! Track Champ vs Rookie • Father vs Son. Battle of the Busch’s by @SERVPRO This Wednesday, March 26th, at Millbridge. Watch on DirtVision.” And naturally, Kyle Busch is pumped for the race, and he’s not too worried about going against the little dirt racing champ.
Busch said, “I’m always competitive. I think the biggest thing where I haven’t necessarily given much thought into is my competition. Being out here on the race track. And focusing on that and not being so worried about where he’s (Brexton) at or what he’s doing. Hopefully, I’m not following a green car. A green car’s following a blue car. And we can have a good night that way.” Brexton is in the green #51 car, and Kyle is in the blue one. But we are not so sure that Brexton will be following.
The division in which the two will race hasn’t been confirmed yet, but it would mostly be restricted micro class because that’s where Brexton has been racing recently. And he’s good! Only a couple of months back, he won a Golden Driller in the junior sprint division at the 2025 Tulsa Shootout. And not just that, in the ‘NOW 600 Restricted Micros, ‘ he’s currently P5 in the points table. And he’s got more experience running micros than Busch. So, of course, Brexton feels he’ll beat his dad. He, too, was at the interview and said the blue would follow the green. To which Kyle replied, “Put your money where your mouth is.”

What’s your perspective on:
Will Brexton Busch outshine his dad Kyle in their first head-to-head race at Millbridge?
Have an interesting take?
Let’s hope for a spectacular clash! Also, hopefully, this father-and-son rivalry and banter is not restricted to just dirt racing. Soon, we might see them battling it out in NASCAR. Busch said in a 2023 SiriusXM interview, “In a perfect world, I would retire from Cup racing when Brexton is 15 years old… When Brexton turns 16, him and I can split that Truck, where he can run the shorter track races and I can run the bigger track races.”
Well, there is still a lot of time for that, and for now, the focus is on their first showdown. However, there is another father-son battle brewing in NASCAR, and they too are soon going to have their first clash!

Kevin vs Keelan: who’s winning?
Kevin Harvick retired from NASCAR in 2023, but he’s been active in Late Models. Both as an owner and as a driver! Harvick co-owns the CARS Tour, and it’s become quite popular for young talent to come and nurture their race craft. And now it’s Kevin Harvick’s son, Keelan’s, time to do the same. After getting his first win in Limited Late Model in the Icebreaker at Florence Motor Speedway, the 12-year-old is set for a full season.
And Harvick is not letting the chance of racing his son go away. It’s happening on May 31st at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway in his hometown of Bakersfield, California, and obviously, he’s pumped for it. “Racing Keelan in my hometown for the first time is a pretty cool dad moment. Bakersfield has meant so much in the progression of my racing career, and being able to tie that together with the beginning of Keelan’s racing career is pretty special.”

Also, like Brexton, Keelan Harvick is looking forward to beating his Cup Series champion dad! “My dad has helped me so much in my short racing career. Being able to race against him for the first time is pretty cool, and it’s something we’ve talked about for a long time. I hope I come out on top, because if not, he won’t stop bragging about it,” Keelan Harvick had said. And let’s hope both Keelan and Bexton grow up to dominate NASCAR in the future, just like their fathers did in their time.
