March 26, 2025, is when the “Battle of the Buschs“ will rage on at Millbridge Speedway. The race features NASCAR legend Kyle Busch challenging his son Brexton Busch, who’s only 9, in their maiden head-to-head race. Such a blockbuster family event has everyone excited. Kyle’s brother Kurt Busch is itching to join the fray, responding to Kyle’s Instagram tease about future racing plans with, “I’m on my way!” Brexton’s not just a kid in a car, he’s a star in the making.
Kyle’s been candid about this showdown. After Homestead-Miami, he said that he’s thrilled to race Brexton, even as his own 62-race winless streak gnaws at him. “Every week that goes by that we don’t win … it’s tough,” he admitted, his voice heavy with the weight of it. While Brexton is all confidence, fresh off testing Legend cars and chasing his dad with that unmistakable Busch fire. Tonight’s micro sprint clash at Millbridge, streaming on DirtVision, is his chance to show he’s more than just a name, and his talk leading up to it shows that he is very well prepared.

Brexton is a step ahead of Kyle Busch
Samantha Busch, swept up in the whirlwind, is shocked at how quickly Brexton is maturing. “One minute he‘s my little boy, and now he‘s out racing his dad,” she said. It‘s a family transition, and Kyle feels it too, as Brexton is his biggest inspiration, challenging him to reach deeper as a racer and a parent. Then Kyle, looking at his son with a blend of pride and disbelief. “He’s learning fast—too fast,” he said, and you can hear the double edge in his voice. It’s not just admiration.
But here’s where it gets interesting. Brexton’s already talking like a vet when he gave an interview recently to DIRTVision, “I’ve done it at Port City and Little Texas, and I made it to A Main both times at Port, went 20th to 9th, well there’s a big wreck, and then the first night I went 14th to 8th,” he said, cool as can be. “And it definitely helps us with race craft a lot. Race craft, this track teaches a lot of that, like crossovers, sliders. You have to know what to do whenever that happens. Tonight is definitely a learning lesson. It will be very big if I can beat him on the first night, so yeah.”
For a two-time NASCAR champion like Kyle Busch, who‘s spent years outwitting the best, it‘s an alarm call. His son’s not messing around; he‘s dissecting every crossover, every line, with an acuity that‘s bordering on the uncanny. It’s what makes a dad proud but also keeps him on edge because Brexton’s not just learning the game; he’s already rewriting it to take down the old man.

And Rowdy’s not about to go easy on him. “That’s what we’re here for,” Kyle Busch told Kevin Harvick about Brexton out-dueling him. “That should happen. If he doesn’t ever progress enough to be faster than me, end of the road, we’re done, save the money. So, I actually look forward to the day where he’s faster than me and he can put clean moves on me and pass me the way that he needs to.”
There‘s no cushioning here, no spoon-feeding, just the rough edge of a driver who recognizes the track isn’t interested in feelings. It‘s not cruelty; it‘s conviction. Kyle‘s raising Brexton the way he grew up through the flames, where every fall is a lesson and every wound is a badge. Failure’s not the enemy in Kyle’s book—it’s the teacher, and he’s betting Brexton’s got the guts to learn from it.

Tonight at Millbridge, that philosophy’s on full display, and it’s as much a test for Kyle’s nerves as it is for Brexton’s skill. This is Busch’s tough love, unfiltered and unapologetic.

Busch family dynamics are where the heart and hustle collide, and it‘s as real as it gets. Samantha Busch found herself in the middle of it all, serving as peacemaker between her high–octane husband and their hot-headed 9-year-old, Brexton. You can almost picture Samantha rolling her eyes, stuck between Kyle‘s tough-love playbook and Brexton‘s growing swagger.
She‘s the glue in this one, keeping it together when the competitive fire ignites because in this family, racing‘s not only a sport, it‘s life. “There are times where I want to get on him about something. I’ll tell him, and he’s like, ‘I’m trying, dad! I’m doing that! The car’s terrible! It stinks! It’s not fast enough.’ I’m like, ‘Hold on a second. You got the best money can buy. Sometimes, it’s not our problem, it’s your problem. You’ve got to figure it out.’ Then he gets a little mad when you tell him he didn’t do his job. Mom is kind of the intermediary, where she helps kind of smooth things over, and we get to a common ground.” Kyle Busch told Kevin Harvick in their recent interview.
Brexton‘s out there, soaking up race craft like a sponge—crossovers, sliders, the whole shebang and Kyle‘s nearly scrambling to stay in front. It‘s a subtle sort of wonder, mixed with the stress of being the champ, who now has a shadow biting at his heels. He‘s not angry about it, but you can guarantee it‘s keeping him up at night, wondering how long he can remain the teacher before Brexton turns the tables.
It’s exhausting, sure, but it’s also lighting a spark under him, a reminder of why he fell in love with racing in the first place. This isn’t just a father-son duo; it’s a push-pull dance that’s shaping them both, one high-speed turn at a time. Who do you think will come out on top at Millbridge Speedway?
