Things were really looking up when Kyle Larson started his engine this past Sunday. After conducive qualifiers, the speedster of Hendrick Motorsports was on the brink of notching his third victory of the season. However, it was not long before the sun set on the horizon for the driver and quelled his hopes for victory.

The race on the track of Watkins Glen International witnessed a clinical comeback of the HMS prodigy and Jeff Gordon’s successor, William Byron. The No.24 claimed his first road course win and also reinforced that it is the HMS banner that flies high in the track of Watkins Glen, with a fifth victory on the track.

It was not just Byron who had a shot at winning, but also his teammate Kyle Larson. However, the 2021 Cup Series champion shot himself in the foot and the favorable day came to a close. Owing to this fact, Kyle Busch’s arch nemesis Corey LaJoie made a revelation on Larson’s lapse of judgment on his podcast.

Kyle Busch’s rival spills the beans on the last lap wreck between HMS and RCR driver

The odds had predicted correctly that it would be the Hendrick Motorsports that would be the reigning ones on the track for a fifth consecutive time. However, what it failed to predict was the name of the driver correctly. The four HMS drivers had evidently shown huge prowess, but it was not long before things became awry for Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson. While Elliott’s car came to a standstill, after running out of fuel, Larson was slapped with a penalty for over-speeding in the pit road.

However, that was not the end for Larson, as he was embroiled in a last-lap wreck after he made contact with RCR’s Austin Dillon. The incident occurred in the last lap of the race at the final turn of the track. The No.5 Chevrolet dive-bombed the No.3 of Dillon’s, eventually spinning both of them out on the track. However, the incident could have been avoided had Larson tried not to outlast Dillon.

On account of this, Corey LaJoie, in the latest episode of his podcast, ‘Stacking Pennies’, took a sly jab at the HMS driver.

Expressing his views on the incident, LaJoie stated, “I am like two back from the three and we go into- I call it 10 but I think it’s 6, the last left hand on the last lap and the three burns it in there, smashes the five.”

“The five is like way out and now I am like okay I am gonna lift and try to turn underneath of him, and Kyle didn’t even like make the corner, he literally drove it straight in the side of the three and spun out. I couldn’t even get it woed up for as much as they hit each other and slowed down. I almost got by unscathed and slowed me down just enough to the 42 freaking got me, but it was a battle,” LaJoie added.

After the chequered flag was dropped and the race reached a conclusion, both Larson and Dillon confronted each other and were seen exchanging words on the pit road after exiting their cars. Moreover, Kyle Larson also expressed his stance on the incident to Frontstretch media.

He exclaimed, I kind of dive-bombed him in the bus stop as I was going through the pack. Thankfully, he left me room because we would have crashed then. A handful of laps later, he got upset exiting the bus stop and I had a run and just nudged him a little bit off the bottom […]”

I really honestly wasn’t even trying to crash him in the last corner. I was trying to maintain leverage into the final corner and got in hot and hit him and crashed. Just a frustrating result to what was going to be a good day,” Larson added.

Nevertheless, Dillon has just one more race left to prove his prowess and enter the playoffs, but will the No.3 be able to do so is a thing to watch for on Sunday’s race at Daytona.
