Despite a close battle with his former Joe Gibbs Racing teammate, Rowdy Kyle Busch‘s road course adventure at Sonoma Raceway fell short as Martin Truex Jr came home victorious, edging out his former teammate to a close second. While the Richard Childress Racing driver came short by a whisker, the plainspoken Busch hurled sharp words at Tony Stewart’s #14 team for their apparent violation of NASCAR rule ahead of the Sonoma race.

Tricks and shortcuts are still prevalent in the sport often used by teams to cheat their way into a win. Last week, the organization handed a hefty penalty to Chase Briscoe‘s #14 team for illegal modification of parts as the Tony Stewart co-owned Stewart-Haas Racing team was caught with a changed duct component. Busch came out with strong criticism and trolled the #14 team with a befitting award.

Earlier last week, NASCAR levied heavy penalties on one of its Cup Series drivers, Chase Briscoe. His subpar 2023 season performance hit a new low when the organization fined an L3-level penalty for counterfeiting a NACA duct post the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

All was well when Briscoe finished a decent 12th spot. However, when NASCAR took his #14 Mustang for a close inspection at their R&D center, they discovered that the opening in the duct was smaller than usual. Consequently, the #14 driver has been penalized 120 driver points and 25 playoff points while his crew chief faces 6 race suspensions and a hefty fine of $250,000.

While SHR chief competition officer Greg Zipadelli adressed the team’s grave “quality control lapse,” NASCAR’s bad boy Kyle Busch brutally slammed the team for their negligence, offering them an “idiot award.” Speaking to the press ahead of his Sonoma run, Busch said, I wish we had a what-an-idiot award, Jesus.”

Busch rebuked SHR’s negligence, adding, “Even if you can’t find that part, you know, you can call one of the other race teams, and say, ‘Hey, you guys got this, we can buy it from you.’ That blows my mind. I don’t get it. For as little as that probably meant, that was a huge fine to the pocket book and points book.”

He, later on, shed some light on the possibilities of these teams as he suggested the #14’s blatant delinquency is just the tip of the iceberg. Busch said, “So, anyways yeah, I think it’s kind of cool that they show all that stuff and show exactly what’s going on and what guys are doing.

“And so, I mean, what’s crazy about it though is all the penalties that have come out of the tech center, I guarantee you can take 15 of them after every single race and there would be something wrong with 14 of them. So, it’s all the tricks and what you’re trying to do and what you can get away with all the time.”

Busch explained his point as he cited Larson’s vicious crash at the iconic super speedway, Talladega. He pointed out how bulkier the Next-Gen cars are compared to their previous generation.

He said, “We used to run 3400-pound cars now we’re like 3600-pound cars. So what’s the limit? What’s the level of how heavy is too heavy? So, you know, just talking to some of the engineers that I’ve spoken to like there’s a few areas of the car that are really, really, really stiff and don’t have any sort of crush zone like the old car used to and that’s why those bars (in No. 5 car) broke.”
