Having to answer questions about the switch from Joe Gibbs Racing to Richard Childress Racing is something that Kyle Busch has done quite a lot of this season. And with good reason. Usually, it takes a driver some time to fully settle into a new team. But not for Kyle Busch, though. Since joining RCR, the No. 8 Chevy has hit the ground running and already has three race wins under his belt.
Given his career, it is arguable that it is expected of Kyle Busch. The NASCAR veteran is one of the most consistent drivers to ever be a part of the sport, as he has won at least one race every year since his rookie season and has been a part of the playoffs 15 times in the past. A lot of that success came with his former team, JGR, but in a recent interview, Rowdy seemed to be taking a little dig at his former employer.

The No. 8 has a lot of work to do going into the last 16 of the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series, which will begin at Darlington this weekend. It will be the first time Busch will try to navigate the playoffs without another teammate in the mix, and it sure does make it interesting for the veteran.
His 2022 campaign, the final year at Joe Gibbs Racing, was pretty lackluster. Out of the 36 races he took part in, Kyle Busch only won once. There have been problems at RCR as well, but Rowdy has already had a far better season.
So far in 2023, he has been a part of 26 races in the Cup Series, out of which Busch has won 3. The veteran race car driver has 8 top-five finishes to his name and 14 top-ten finishes, making him one of the strongest contenders going into the last 16, which was certainly not the case for him at JGR last year.
“Yeah no that certainly felt good. Felt really good, you know, we were fast at the Clash, we were fast at Daytona, we won Fontana so it was like man this is easy,” Busch asserted.
Despite being one of Joe Gibbs’ crown jewels in his 15-year stint with his team, Kyle Busch was not happy with his 2022 performance by any chance. Only one win in 36 races does seem pretty dull compared to three wins in 26, which he has done this year, and he will probably get one more under his belt before the end.
“I should have done this a long time ago,” he said later on in the interview, but acknowledged facing some problems as the season progressed. “We’ve had a bit of a rough patch but I think that happens in anybody’s season,” Rowdy added.

Despite having a better season in 2023 than in 2022, the No. 8 has been off the pace in the second half of the regular season. All three of his victories with RCR came at the beginning of the campaign, but since then, the veteran’s season has not really been strong, according to one NASCAR insider.

In a recent episode of PRN’s Fast Talk, NASCAR journalist Brad Gillie offered his two cents on the upcoming playoffs and who he felt would be impactful in the round of 16.
Unfortunately, Kyle Busch’s name only came up in a negative manner. Gillie said that Busch has been weak in the last few races of the regular season, predicting other drivers, like Ross Chastain, to do better than him at Darlington.
“The last one was probably the hardest for me because yes, I’m reaching above the cutline right now; Kyle Busch has been pretty weak here over the last handful of races, Ross Chastain hasn’t had a whole lot although I think he can do a whole lot in Darlington this week,” Gillie said.
