Last September, Kyle Busch decided to sell his Truck Series team, KBM, to Spire Motorsports. It was a complete takeover by Spire, who purchased the whole KBM shop along with the Rowdy Manufacturing unit. It was indeed a tough sell for Busch, who had loving memories of a successful time. However, fast forward to the new Truck Series season, and Spire has announced that Rowdy will be back with his old team for five races in 2024.
The two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion will be behind the wheel of the No. 7 Chevy Silverado truck for his partial feature. It’s not new for Busch to compete in multiple races in one weekend, but this time around it will be a different feeling to race for his old team that is under a new banner. Interestingly, a lot of employees and individuals remained at Spire despite the sale of KBM, and therefore, with this opportunity in hand, the veteran racer will feel at home reuniting with his old friends.

This will be the first time since 2010 that the 38-year-old driver will be driving under a different team banner. In the era, before the KBM was put in place, Busch had a history of driving for teams like Morgan Dollar and Billy Ballew Motorsports. So it will be a different feeling for him knowing that he will be racing under his old team but with the same faces.
Speaking in an interview with Bob Pockrass, Busch expressed his joy in reuniting with his KBM team members. He said, “Truck schedule is set. I got five Truck Series races with Spire(…)At least the guys I get to work with are my guys from the last year you know. It will be Brain Pattie and the same crew members and things like that, so I’m ready for that.”
“Still all the same KBM trucks, it’s the same KBM Atlanta truck that they should’ve won with last year. So hopefully I’m just fast with it this year and go out there and get the win.” He was asked about his potential feature in the Xfinity Series for this season, to which he replied, “I don’t think there’s an Xfinity on the table right now, no.”

It was his 19th attempt at winning the elusive ‘The Great American Race.’ Considered one of the modern-day greats of the sport, Busch has won everything there is to win. However, the Daytona 500 still seems to be out of his reach. For some, a 12th-place finish may look like a sub-par result for a decorated driver like Kyle Busch, but in reality, it was a decent result, especially considering all the pit road drama and mishaps that he had to face.
Firstly, he was driving his backup car in the race after his primary car was involved in an accident during qualifiers. Adding to this was a safety penalty. And that’s not it. With 66 laps to go, he pulled into the pits for a tire change, and the next thing you know, he had a loose wheel as the pit crew member did not secure the lug on his left front tire. Despite all of this, he never lost his cool and managed a P12 finish.

At 38, it feels like there’s an opportunity for him to salvage his previous losses and convert just one, but that one Daytona 500 win looks like it’s a mile away from his reach. Meanwhile, he will hope to have better luck when he reunited with Spire.
