After his sensational Daytona 500 win earlier this year, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. called out his haters and thanked his fans and supporters. But in between all of this, he mentioned the name of Kyle Busch, and that too in a very particular context.
“Obviously you’re going to have haters everywhere. And when you have somebody at the time like Kyle Busch getting out and bashing you, that’s difficult to overcome,” said Stenhouse Jr.
This left many with a ‘What-was-that-all-about’ feeling, including Busch.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. on why he namedropped Kyle Busch after Daytona 500
In a conversation on the Residency Podcast, Stenhouse Jr. opened up on what happened after the Daytona 500 when he had mentioned Kyle Busch, and the latter had to double-check.
“Kyle Busch texts me after the 500 and he was like, ‘Hey when did I bash you after the race?’ I was like, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about,'” Stenhouse said. He explained that Busch was probably talking about an interview he did in which he was asked, “What do you do with social media and Twitter hate?”
“This was back in 2018, I was like, ‘Well, back in 2018, I crashed Kyle Busch at Daytona,’ obviously not on purpose, but I did. And he got out and bashed me and he’s got a lot of followers, he wins a lot. All these people just jumped on, bashing me,” Stenhouse Jr. described.
“So I called him, I’m like, ‘Hey I was talking about something that happened a long time ago.’ He said, ‘Oh, okay.'”

Stenhouse Jr. on the ferocity of NASCAR fans
After explaining that it was the incident from 2018 that led him to mention Kyle Busch’s name after his Daytona 500 win, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. opened up on the nature of NASCAR fans.
“I think when somebody speaks up and says something, like their fanbase just jumps on board, like the NASCAR fanbase is die hard to your team, especially to your driver and sponsor related,” he said.

And it gets even more interesting when you consider that Kyle Busch too had made a point along similar lines about NASCAR fans.
