Having started on the pole for the Wurth 400, Kyle Busch, of Richard Childress Racing, managed his second-best finish of the season, with a 4th spot. His best finish (3rd) came in a three-wide photo finish at Atlanta. Rowdy hasn’t been able to compete for wins off late with his No. 8 Chevrolet. From pit crew blunders to not being able to compete for wins, it has been a sub-par showing by both RCR and its driver.
Recently, industry insider Steve Letarte had warned RCR about Busch getting irritated on his run with the team, highlighting how the bad mojo could further rile their star driver into speaking out against them in the media. And that is exactly what Busch resorted to, despite his strong run at Dover.

There’s no doubting Busch’s ability to win as a race car driver, as he’s already been in the victory lane twice this season. Although it came in the Truck Series, it goes to show that given a good race car and essential support, the driver will deliver the result. However, for some reason, it seems RCR has not been able to provide the right tools to their star driver.
Expressing his discontent with the treatment so far this season, Rowdy, in a sarcastic manner, aimed a jibe at his team in the post-race interview. “Yeah, good day for the 8 car get all the points. That’s a normal day, I’d love to have a lot more normal days. We just can’t seem to get any. Proud of everybody on this FICO Chevrolet; it was pretty decent. I felt like if we came off the pit road there at the end.”
He also spoke about his chances of a better finish at the end of the race. Stating that he had a third-place car but couldn’t churn out better results with a late charge in the race. “Being able to just charge forward, try to catch those leaders that was probably going to be our best bet to try and run them down and race with them. But, definitely had a third-place car today, so having to come from eight to fourth on that final run right there was really really tough, but that was about all we had.”

While the racing for the most part was clean, Busch wasn’t impressed by the aero-blocking tactics used by the drivers during the race.

Back during the race in Texas, Hamlin, in his 11 car was trying to push Chase Elliott for the win late in the race. However, all Elliott needed was to block Hamlin’s charging run and let the air do its job. And sure enough, it did, as the JGR driver, without making any contact, found himself crashing into the outside wall.

Unfortunately for Busch, he was on the receiving end of a similar tactic late in the race, which stalled his bid to get an even better finish. “The aero blocking is just so bad. It’s so bad. And everybody knows it and uses it as a defense item. We lost at the straightaways to the 19, that’s what frustrated me the most. He was slower and just would not give me an inch in order to be able to get by,” Busch went on to add.
We saw Chase Elliott break his winless streak earlier this season. So, something similar is now expected of Kyle Busch and the RCR camp after their strong performance today. Will they be able to do it? Only time will tell.
