One of the biggest money maneuvers in 2023 was the sale of Kyle Busch Motorsports. While news of the two-time Cup Series champion letting go of his Truck Series team was itself a shocker for fans, it turns out there’s more to the picture than the Spire deal as Busch recently sued Rev Racing for an unpaid balance of $325,000 payable to the driver’s now defunct Truck Series team. This year, Spire Motorsports is providing the trucks for Rev Racing, who is fielding Nick Sanchez in the series. However, a year ago, it was Kyle Busch Motorsports who provided them with the trucks and it looks like Rev Racing seriously fell behind on their payment obligations.

Kyle Busch takes Rev Racing to court, suing the team for breach of contract

The dispute is over unpaid fees regarding KBM and Rev’s alliance in the series in 2023. Though Busch has sold his team assets to Spire, the older payments from Rev Racing are still pending. The team has reportedly paid only $2.575 million out of the total pending amount of #2.9 million.

That agreement stated that KBM would be paid $2.9 million for the season. Sharing the news on X, Bob Pockrass, expressed his intrigue when Busch races his Spire Motorsports teammate Sanchez in Atlanta. His tweet read, “In trucks, will be interesting how Kyle Busch races Nick Sanchez. They are kind of teammates b/c Rev Racing trucks provided by Spire. But KBM has sued Rev, claiming it owes $325K (Rev has paid KBM $2.575M of $2.9M agreement for trucks in 2023). Rev’s Max Siegel had no comment.”

Rev Racing, which had a technical alliance with Kyle Busch Motorsports last season will have a technical partnership with Spire Motorsports, which acquired the KBM team and shop late last year. More than that, Sanchez is returning to Rev Racing to the RR #2 Gainbridge Chevrolet Silverado in 2024.

In a statement, Rev Racing told Channel 9 they’re working through some accounting and expect to resolve the matter amicably. However, this could have major repercussions as Busch is gearing up for his Spire Motorsports debut and this legal move could very well topple his Truck Series ambitions as both Sanchez and Busch are now teammates at Spire and the legal move at such a time will probably ruffle the feather, creating more friction with his former partners at Rev Racing.

The plan for Spire Motorsports is pretty simple; don’t mess up what Rowdy and his group. This is a championship contender, both Caruth and Purdy should be able to dish out their best. And with Caruth’s Daytona run, the momentum is in the side of the Chevy stable while the presence of the Busch will certainly raise the morality of the team overall.
