What could be worst than the raindrops gracing the tracks of Michigan? While the drivers were set to rev up their engines for the 400-mile-long race, the inclement weather seemed to throw a wrench in the race preparations of the teams and the drivers. The beginning of the race seemed to have been delayed before the tiny speck of sunlight was visible through the dark clouds.

The delay provided a sense of displeasure as it seemed to shake their sense of focus on the race. However, the only set of individuals who seized the opportunity of the delay was the NBC reporters as they engaged in a candid conversation with the drivers. The first driver that the journalist caught hold of was Richard Childress Racing‘s Kyle Busch and squeezed out a few strategies from the driver.

This was surely not the first time in the 2023 Cup Series season that the deluge seemed to have wreaked havoc on the execution of a race unruffled. To cite a few, the inaugural race in Chicago that was delayed by more than an hour, and the race at Loudon that got postponed to Monday, were races where the excitement was lulled by heavy precipitation.

In Michigan, before the drivers could once again take their seats behind the wheel, NBC reporter Parker Kligerman seized the opportunity to engage with the drivers. The first driver was the 2x Cup Series champion Kyle Busch and his teammate Austin Dillon. While speaking to Kyle Busch, the reporter was able to extract information regarding the team’s strategy for the race day.

The #8 Chevrolet driver expressed, “It s**ks to have delays, hopefully, we can get it dry and get some action today. Our picture of Chevrolet was pretty good in practice yesterday. We had some good speed, doing really good […] Was really looking forward to a hot sun shiny day today but that was not in the cards. So we will see when we go out back on green today.”

When asked about the downforce and the speed of the car, the driver in a discreet tone retorted, “Yeah I mean- yes. You got play both sides. Trying to figure out how much you want to give upon downforce, You gotta look about the yellow and 8 for 1 you have gotta take it up. There is only 1 for 1 you might not take it. Overall though I feel like that these tracks have been our strong suit.”

Nevertheless, shifting the focus to Busch’s teammate Austin Dillion, the journalist was curious about Dillon’s thoughts on having Busch as his teammate.

The #3 driver replied, “No, not at all. Me and Kyle had a lot of fun this year working together at the RCR. Our teams are really progressing and fun.

“We gotta get the No.3 in playoffs and we got three races to do and this one I believe, so we are working hard to get there and get ourselves in points so we can compete.”

With that being said, RCR’s Kyle Busch surely did not have a favorable end to his day after he failed to pull up and made contact with Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney and had to call it a day.
