Kyle Busch not allowed burnouts early on—Did it shape him into the driver he is today?

Iconic father-son duos and NASCAR go hand in hand; Dale Earnhardt – Dale Earnhardt Jr, Bobby Allison – Davey Allison, or Bill Elliott – Chase Elliott. These are, however, already known. As NASCAR progresses, we have to keep an eye out for the next generation of racers, who are already in the making.

NASCAR is witnessing a new era, and following the footsteps of legendary father-son duos, we now have potential future legendary pairs. Kyle and Brexton Busch, Kyle, and Owen Larson, and Kevin and Keelan Harvick. These young drivers have already shown remarkable talent, with Keelan Harvick’s recent victory at Charlotte Motor Speedway being a prime example of their potential. It’s clear that the future of NASCAR is in good hands.

But, greatness often comes from the roots, and NASCAR’s roots are in the vehicles. In a recent heartfelt father-son moment, Kyle and Brexton were seen washing Kyle’s first legend car as he told the young Brexton stories of the past.

Kyle showers little Brexton Busch with some wisdom

Kyle Busch is often seen attending and cheering for Brexton races and vice versa. Brexton at just 9, is already on a path to becoming a champion. He’s already won several dirt races. He’s seen taking sprints at the annual Hyper Racing 600 Speedweek. One can really see the reflection of a young Kyle in Brexton. In another father-son moment, Kyle Busch took to Instagram. What was a promotional video for one of his sponsors, was made cleverly as in it Kyle inspired young Brexton with the stories of his past.

The hearting video had both of them cleaning Kyle’s Legend car as he walked down memory lane. He said, “I never thought about how old this car would be You know what were some of my fondest memories of racing a legends car. Getting to travel across the country with my dad and go race different races and stuff like that.” According to Kyle, he and his father would often travel to California, Arizona, and Salt Lake City, Utah. And since he grew up racing in Vegas, so they ran races in Vegas all the time.

Have an interesting take?

Further in the video, Kyle talked about how he wasn’t allowed to do burnouts after winning a race. Reiterating this, he said, “He would never let me do burnouts after the races were over. We had only one set of tires. So we had to increase that set of tires the next week. Kind of like what I tell you, no burnouts.” However, like every young kid, Brexton said that he always does burnouts after racing.

Speaking of burnouts, Kyle Busch really needs an opportunity to do one. He has been winless so far in the Cup Series, and with only three races remaining, Busch is in a do-or-die situation.

What are Kyle Busch’s playoff chances?

The two-week break was supposed to be for the Richard Childress Racing to re-group and get Busch out of the slump that he is currently in. However, Busch did not get the comeback he was hoping for at the Richmond raceway where only managed a P12. Kyle Busch is currently 18th in points with only two, top-5 finishes. This is so unlike the 2-time NASCAR Cup Series champion.

With only one pole in the 2024 season, he’s lacked consistency as he got only six top-10s this season. If we look at the playoff picture, he is sitting at -119 points below the cutoff line. While mathematically possible, consistently finishing in the top 5 for the remaining races is his only realistic hope of qualifying without a win. However, the #8 of RCR will be looking to bag a win, full-proofing his playoff spot.

The next race is at the Michigan International Speedway, we know how important starting position is in a race. Busch has managed to start from P13, which is not great but isn’t bad either. Busch can consistently increase his position in the race and look to get a good Stage 1 finish getting a couple of points. If he maintains that and the racing gods favor him, we can see the #8 finishing in the top 5, something that he desperately needs. As for the last two races, Busch had a P7 at Daytona last year and a P11 at Darlington. He will have to do much better than that if he wants to qualify for the playoffs.
