This weekend, the NASCAR paddock will land at the Circuit of the Americas. In the buildup to the race, Kyle Busch headed back home to Las Vegas for some downtime. During that time, he made an appearance on the Residency podcast and shared a few interesting stories. During the conversation, he talked about an experience in a fast car that truly frightened him. This occurred when he was very young and his NASCAR career was just taking off.

Talking to the hosts of the Residency Podcast, he said, “I think it was when I came back one time, I might have been 22 or something like that. I met a guy through the NASCAR circuit, just racing stuff like that. But the guy that was out here that owned some of the exotic cars and whatever; like you could rent one or drive one around. So, he let me use a Lambo and I took it out on the 215 and it was late at night.

“I wanted to see how fast I could go. So I got it going pretty fast and then it started to hydro-drift. ‘Cause it was like the 215 by the Centennial? Is that right? Up over there where you go around that bend. So it was starting to drift out, I was scared sh*tless and I was like, ‘Okay, we’re done. That’s it, that’s enough.'”

Kyle Busch has a shot at winning this weekend’s race

The Circuit of the Americas is a track where Chevrolet cars generally perform well. Moreover, the two Cup races held at COTA have been won by Chevy drivers Chase Elliott and Ross Chastain. Given that Kyle Busch’s Richard Childress Racing car is a Chevy machine, he is in with a good shout for victory.

He is also racing in the Truck Series race this weekend at COTA, and he is a clear favorite to win the race. So, it is likely that his confidence levels would be up going into the race.

However, one should not count their chickens before they are hatched. There is still the matter of qualifying and that could mean anything. If the 2-time Cup Series champion could stick his car on pole position, he would consider half the battle won. From that point onwards, it will just be a matter of trying to keep the lead for as long as possible.
